Weekly Must-Have: NYX Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder
I LOVE makeup…but I probably love seeing it on others more than myself. I just find that heavy makeup washes me out, not to mention I feel like I look 10 years older buried under it. I’ve got a pretty simple makeup routine: foundation, concealer, brows, mascara, and nude lipstick. Done. If I could get away with stepping out in just lipstick and Vaseline on lids (because I’m loving the glossy lid trend), I would, but, alas, I don’t have the skin for it. Sigh.
So imagine my excitement over a product that totally changed my beauty game — It adds sheen and subtle color and makes my cheekbones look as if they were sculpted with angel dust. Enter the best part of my morning routine: NYX Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder in Lavender Steel. Yes, the color matters!
Pre-lavender me would have opted for a nude, almost translucent highlighter…and played it safe (boring). But lavender is my new favorite hue. I apply a little to the apples of my cheeks and on cheekbones. The result: a glorious hologram of pinky-lilac that oddly doesn’t make me feel like like a tween. (I’m 28). The color is subtle, so I’m not looking like a ’60s mod-squad member, but it’s also high-impact and totally wearable during the day. It’s definitely a game-changer. I’ve gotten so many compliments and I’ve done nothing different than buy this little $8 gem.
How I’ve gotten through life this far without highlighter, I do not know. My newfound obsession with holographic highlighter also introduced me to the Milk Makeup Stick ($28), which I like to layer under the NYX chromatic powder, since I’m now basically a highlight expert (not really), but I do know that layering increases staying power, not to mention looks gorge.
It really has becomes my favorite step of my makeup ritual, and for the price, I won’t be parting with this highlighter anytime soon.
