Weekly Must Have: Bite Beauty Matte Cream Lip Crayon
Although the temperature doesn’t feel very “fall” here on the west coast (it’s an uncomfortable 100 degrees!), I’m seriously ready to add some autumn colors to my makeup routine. When it comes to lips, fall plays on what I like to call, the Thanksgiving color palette – reds, cranberries, wines, and aubergines.
As for texture, I like both mattes and glosses for fall. With a shimmering eye, I tend to choose a matte lip to counteract. And there are few matte formulas that I’m as excited about as Bite Beauty’s new Matte Cream Lip Crayon (mentioned quickly here). This lippy-liner-creamy-moist-matte formula comes pretty close to perfection.
Where do I even begin? Let’s start with application. I’m a sucker for easy application so lip crayons are some of my favorite types of lipsticks. I’ve gushed about my unhealthy obsession with Tarte’s Lipsurgence Lip Tints on numerous occasions (I think I own almost every shade!) and Bite’s version makes Tarte’s seem cumbersome. Bite’s is thinner and sleeker and boasts a pen-like tip that allows you to line your lips and fill them in for precise, stay-within-the-lines application (and a kick-ass cupid’s bow).
The matte formula has serious staying power; through dinner, drinks, and a goodnight kiss / make out without so much as a smudge (save for an unfortunate lipstick-on-tooth appearance, that I quickly remedied using this trick). The lippy isn’t a chalky matte that flakes or feels heavy on your mouth like so many mattes tend to do. The company explains that this moist matte texture is the result of orange peel wax along and the antioxidant properties of resveratrol. So, if you’ve shied away from matte’s in the past due to their drying properties, it’s time to rethink your stance.
Onto the colors: 12, wearable, gorgeously pigmented shades in reds, burgundies, and nudes. There isn’t a single shade that I dislike… that’s literally never happened to me before — especially with bold hues. If I had to pick my fall favorites, I’d say Aubergine, a rich eggplant, Brandy, a muted raspberry, Truffle, a deep purplish brown, and, for those unafraid of statement lips, Framboise, a vibrant pinkish purple that I’ve been wearing almost every night, to a slew of compliments.
Bite Beauty Matte Cream Lip Crayon is like a bag of potato chips – you can’t have just one. I seriously suggest perusing the shades and stocking up for fall. If you’re a lip person like me, then you’ll want options — like, 12 of them.
