Vitamin C Is Here To Save Our Skincare Routines
We know we have to take our vitamins for better health (thanks mom!), and when beauty benefits come in pill form there’s really no reason to skip our one-a-day. It’s true, vitamins are essential for a top-notch immune system, but even better, they promote healthy, beautiful skin! Fist-pump. But when a complete diet overhaul is out of reach, no sweat, we can take our vitamins topically and still reap the benefits. Double fist-pump.
Vitamin C is like the unsung hero in skincare. We’ve heard of its ability to curb the common cold, and we’ll admit it, Emergen-C has saved us from a hangover or two. Less often do we turn to vitamin C for anti-aging benefits however, but no more. Ascorbic acid, a.k.a. vitamin C, is an antioxidant, and it makes our skin brighter and firmer while slowing down pre-mature aging of the skin. How? Vitamin C helps to promote and maintain collagen production, fights off free radicals, corrects dark spots, redness, and skin discoloration, acts as a mild UV shield (take that sun damage! but don’t skip the SPF), and even soothes acne-prone skin. Consider this our apology for neglecting it from our skincare routines for this long.
We tested out some vitamin c serums and products; read on for our thoughts and start upping the OJ intake, stat.
Sunday Riley Micro-Dissolve Cleaning Oil ($38) – Careful with this lightweight oil around the eyes, (the turmeric can sting), otherwise it removes makeup and gently exfoliates, revealing soft, bright skin thanks to the vitamin C.
Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Eye Recovery Gel ($29) – Oh how we adore eye gels, the formulation is perfect for the delicate eye area, and you already know the benefits.
Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum ($34) – A BB fave! Packed with vitamin c and hyaluronic acid (our all-time fave skincare ingredient tbh, #obsessed), our complexions are glowing. Plus, the ferulic acid improves the UV protective properties of vitamin C. A true winner.
Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum ($80) – We’re digging the oil texture of this serum, but don’t worry it absorbs quickly and didn’t leave our oily skin any greasier, instead we felt firmer skin and a slight “plumping” effect.
Avya Skincare Anti-Aging Power Serum ($165) – The scent alone might sell us on this one, that and it left a luminous finish on our skin.
Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate ($62) – Vitamin c + hyaluronic acid is already a recipe for skin goodness, this one felt like a moisturizer going on almost immediately smoothes out skin texture.
