Trend Alert: Freckles For Fall
Can you believe it? It’s almost Fall! I’m sad to see summer go. While I may complain about the heat and humidity, it sure beats the approaching trauma of wind, rain, sleet and snow.
Alas, we’re not here to talk weather – we’re here to dish on trends. And this is a rather interesting one, and so easy – something that everyone can achieve within minutes: freckles!
As a child, I had freckle envy. I thought that girls with freckles were so cute and so lucky. As an adult, I had flawless complexion envy. I wanted a pore-free face. Instead, I grew up with pores, the occasional break out and sun spots (that looked a lot like freckles). The grass is always greener, my friends…

I recently did an interview with Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee (love her) for Interview Magazine, and while mentioning her favorite Fall trends from last season’s RTW Fashion Shows, she references the Chloe show (pictured above), saying: “Chloe always seems to lean towards that beautiful, fresh-faced ’70s ideal of beauty. This season was very tonal and innocent. I love the way freckles have been added to this look.”
Kate goes on to explain how to achieve this trend, “To enhance your own freckles, or cheat a few in, brow pencils work amazingly well. Remember to be very subtle. Apply tiny dots randomly and then pad with your fingers—you’re looking for a light sprinkling across the bridge of the nose. If you keep the tones natural with all the elements of this look together, it will work for every skin tone.”
This is fabulous news as we move from summer to fall. While the sun has (hopefully) left us with a golden glow, chances are, the after effects – no matter how much sunblock you use – will be a few freckles forming on your face (and if not freckles, sadly, sunspots, that look quite like freckles, but have more long term damage). So…. this trend will be easy to fake come autumn as most of us will already have a base.
Let’s get real: freckles are cute. They’re natural. And they’re a new, fun facial accessory!
Here are some inspiration photos for fabulous freckles (obviously, you can do as few or as many as you wish):
