#TBT: Bonne Bell’s Lip Smackers
Just a few days ago, Bonne Bell announced that they were shutting down business (although this news has been refuted by certain outlets) and beauty addicts everywhere are mourning the loss. The company has been around since 1973 when they launched the world’s first flavored lip balm. As pre-teens, Lip Smackers were collected like candy; Dr. Pepper was an extremely coveted flavor, but Cotton Candy and Strawberry were not to be missed either. While most of us weren’t allowed to wear colored lipstick as adolescents, Lip Smackers enabled us to skate around that policy with just the slightest hint of hue.
We like to think we’ve matured since our Lip Smackers days, but the need for a fabulous tinted lip balm still stands. Especially in winter, lip moisture is an absolute must (the hint of hue is merely a bonus). Go ahead and collect all of our top picks listed below. Instead of showing them off to your friends at recess, you can brag to your coworkers at the water cooler.
Pacifica Coconut Kiss Creamy Lip Color ($10) is deliciously creamy and imparts a gorgeous plum tint. It’s sweetened with stevia and contains coconut, so like your beloved Lip Smackers, you may be tempted to eat it, but thankfully this snack is calorie-free.
I previously raved about this mask here and I am still just as obsessed. I reach for my Bite Beauty’s Smashed Agave Lip Mask ($26) when I want natural color with my moisture. It’s a universally flattering shade of red wine that also gives my pucker some serious hydration.
Sometimes, you just have to treat yourself to something luxurious. By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur ($56) is pumped full of softening rose flower and comes in six delectable shades.
Supergoop! AcaiFusion Lip Balm SPF 30 ($9) is the ideal tinted balm for a day in the sun. Acai is incredibly hydrating, and the high SPF will protect your lips from damaging rays.
Dior Addict Lip Glow ($33) is my newest balm obsession, although the product has been around for quite some time. It has “color reviver technology” that reacts to the chemistry of your lips, creating a unique shade for each pout.
For lips that are totally kissable, try Jane Iredale Sugar&Butter Lip Exfoliator and Plumper ($25). One end lightly exfoliates dry lips while the opposite end plumps and tints. Mwah!
