Some days sharing one great new find just doesn’t seem like enough. And with the number of wonderful products hitting the eco-beauty shelves, it’s hard to decide which ones to share first. So, why not share two in one post?

In my ongoing quest to replace the dozens of paraben-filled lipsticks and glosses I’ve recycled, I have found the perfect replacement for my old standby gloss in KORRES #33 NUDE. They describe it as a “sheer, pinky beige” and I call it “perfect.” In the tube it is deceivingly dark, once applied it’s shiny and semi-sheer with just a hint of color. The KORRES Cherry Oil Lip Gloss collection includes over a dozen different shades from pale pinks to deeper red and plum. Formulated without parabens, sulfates, petro-chemicals or GMOs, KORRES uses cherry oil for moisture and shine (and a great natural scent), jojoba oil to smooth fine lines and hydrate, and Vitamins C and E to protect and repair skin damage.

I highly recommend starting with the Cherry Oil Natural Lip Gloss Trio, a set of fabulous neutrals (including #33) at a great price. Or the Love Your Lips set which includes three glosses and pomegranate lip butter. Don’t forget that all Beauty Banter readers get 30% off purchases at the Korres website through September 15th with promo code BANTER. Check out the new Korres site here.

Summer may be coming to an end, but here in Los Angeles, it’s bare legs year-round. That is why I am thrilled to find that Victoria’s Secret PINK has launched a new beauty line that is 100% vegan, free of parabens, mineral oil and sulfites. I wasn’t sure what to expect as few mainstream retailers have jumped on the organic trend. After trying the Nourishing Shave Cream, all I can say is I am impressed. Big brand shave creams and gels made to soothe often contain parabens, petro-chemicals and formaldehyde…not exactly gentle. PINK shave cream is made with shea and cocoa butters to nourish skin and antioxidants like grapeseed oil to protect. Derm tested and packaged in post-consumer recycled materials, I love this inside and out (and I’ll be writing more on this line in weeks to come). As the tubes and jars proclaim, “Think green. Live pink!” Pick up the shave cream in Victoria’s Secret Beauty stores or online. xo alex.

Victoria’s Secret Goes Green… Finally!

By | skin | One Comment

Victoria’s Secret is hopping on the green wagon and all we can say is, “It’s about time!” Their newest body collection, Pink, is organic, 100% vegan and eco-friendly. Even the packaging is made from Post Consumer Recycled materials, with limited inks and dyes and removable labels.

The Pink collection came about after months of research where the Victoria’s Secret research team spoke to hundreds of ladies across the country to find out what’s important to them in their products.

Funny thing is: I WAS ONE OF THOSE GIRLS! And it looks like they listened because I said going green was and is very, very important! We only have one earth, you know?!

Here are the deets:

4 collections
Energizing – a wake up call for your skin, packed with organic citrus and mint.
Nourishing – leaves skin feeling super soft and moisturized with organic Shea butter.
Soothing – hypoallergenic and infused with organic soy milk and oat extract
Essentials – everything essential for beautiful skin

Products include lotions, body washes, sugar scrub, foot cream, shaving cream, lip butters, hand cream and more.

Pink is available now!

P.S. How cute and girly is the packaging? It reminds me of Kiehl’s but with more… pink! I’d say that this is a step in the right direction for Victoria’s Secret.

Thanks for listening, VS!

Victoria’s Secret At Home

First bras, then lotions, then glosses, now home luxuries — do they ever stop?! Victoria’s Secret has recently launched their at home collection – 3 limited edition scents in 6 products.

The packaging is more sleek and sophisticated than previous Victoria’s Secret products (which was a big issue of mine – the lotions looked so cheap!). Semi-frosted glass bottles with matted silver tops… outer packaging is more upscale with white boxes and ribbon. These are products that I’d actually showcase throughout my house. They’re going for that Molton Brown and Jo Malone demographic – not bad company to keep.

The products are:
Room Sprays – $12.00
Candles – $28.00
Hand Soap and Lotion (my favorite duo that has already taken permanent residence next to my sink) – Soap, $15.00/ Lotion, $18.00
Triple-Milled Soap Trio (great housewarming gift) – $28.00
Reed Diffuser (another great housewarming gift) – $28.00

The scents are:
Mandarin Woods – Mandarin mixed with alpine greens (smells a bit masculine)
Vanilla Orchid – A blend of vanilla, orchid and musk (very sweet)
Cashmere Fig – Fig and woods (a bit spicy)

While I’m totally digging the aesthetic of the new home collection, I must admit that the scents are still a tad too fragrant for my taste – especially the room sprays – (and by fragrant I mean overindulgent – dare I say, nose-twitch inducing…). But if you like overly-fragrant, perfumey products, than you will no doubt love these!

Props to the VS corp for creating a very decent, more mature collection!

Oscar Spotlight: Heidi Klum

Here’s how the hair and makeup team created Heidi Klum’s stunning mod look…

“Hairstylist Helena Faccenda and Victoria’s Secret make-up artist Linda Hay used Victoria’s Secret So Sexy hair products and Very Sexy Make-up to create Heidi’s look.

Helena created a soft mod updo inspired by Faye Dunaway, circa 1968 Thomas Crown Affair. To get the this updo, Helena backcombed Heidi’s roots to give the hair a little lift. Hair was smoothed over with a soft tooth brush. To finish the look, hair was tied into a couture shaped ball at the crown of her head. “To complement Heidi’s amazing couture gown, I channeled Elegant Horst’s 60’s Vogue cover.”

As for the makeup, Linda focused on the eyes, the absence of color and a neutral lip.
The skin was sun-kissed with a beige/bronzy look from head to toe using a mix of Bare Bronze Gleaming Self Tan Tint and Daily Glow Moisturizer to her whole body and a light sweep of Ooh La La Shimmer Powder to line her legs, arms, and shoulders. For her face, Linda used tinted moisturizer to even out her complexion and a little concealer around the eyes and nose. A light dusting of translucent powder and Goddess Bronzer to shape and contour her face.

For the eyes, Linda used Black Velvet Eye Pencil to draw a very thin line on the top lash line. Then using the 2 lighter Charcoal colors in the Satisfied Eye Very Sexy Mosaic palette, she lightly smudged the pencil and drew in the crease. Linda used the white shadow in the Mosaic palette to highlight right under the brow line and a dot at the inside corner of the eye. Underneath, she also added a thin sweep of the lightest silver to gently define the eye. Next, she applied individual lashes to the top and bottom lashes and about four or five applications of Very Voluptuous Black Mascara for supreme definition. To make the eye pop even more, she used Sparkling White Eye Pencil.

The lips were kept matte. Linda ussed Ginger Spice to line her lips and filled them with a combination of Whisper and Spontaneous to finish the look.”

Very Voluptuous

By | Uncategorized | 12 Comments

Victoria’s Secret has grown enormously since the days of padded bras and nude undies. In fact, their beauty section is so impressive, it boasts some of the largest names in the industry to date… Frederic Fekkai, Patricia Wexler M.D. skin, and Joey New York, just to name a few. To put it mildly, Victoria’s Secret Beauty has become a one-stop beauty destination.

January 2008 marks another milestone for the beauty giant… the launch of Very Voluptuous, Victoria’s Secrets personal products (on the heels of the Very Sexy Collection). After all, who doesn’t want a bit of curves in the right spots???

What it is:

Our best-selling lip plumpers that started it all… For full, incredibly sexy lips with a luscious hint of color. Innovative Marine Collagen Microspheres instantly plump and smooth, visibly
diminishing lines and wrinkles. Choose from original Bare, with self-adjusting pigments for a personalized rosy tint, or Hot Pink and Baby Pink, for tinted plumping. $18

A dangerously hot combination of Marine Collagen Microspheres and natural GABA instantly delivers mega volume and hydration while reducing the look of lines and wrinkles for a super-plump, sexy pout. The intensely warm, tingly sensation lets you know it’s plumping. $26

NEW! VERY VOLUPTUOUS™ Extreme Volume Mascara
For lush, unbelievably thick, eye-opening lashes. This ultimate volumizing mascara combines an extreme volume brush and conditioning formula to define and lengthen while creating ultra-voluminous, clump-free lashes in just one sweep. In Very Black. $18

NEW! VERY VOLUPTUOUS™ Ultimate Bust Plumper
For eye-popping, extreme cleavage and a smooth, dangerously voluptuous bust. Groundbreaking formula with Hyaluronic Spheres, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein and Lipids plumps and hydrates, creating beyond-sexy curves. Creamy, fast-absorbing formula tingles on contact, delivering moisture for wow-worthy, visibly sexy results. $26

We had the opportunity to test the Lip Plumper in Baby Pink (a barely-there lippie with a hint of iridescent), the Extreme Volume Mascara (plump without clumps… it delivers!) and the Ultimate Bust Plumper. The latter of the three is of most interest… the box says, “In just 2 weeks, bust and decollete feel plumped and look voluptuous, and cleavage looks sexier.” Although we’re not quite sure how a cream can offer such claims, we’re definitely trying it for the full 2 weeks.

Say good-bye to breast growing mantras (“I must, I must, I must increase my bust…”) and hello to the Ultimate Bust Plumper! If only this product were available when I was still in the throes of puberty….
