Trend Alert: Orange Lips For Summer

By | trends | One Comment

Orange is all the rage for the summer pout, and while you may be thinking, “this is SO not wearable,” think again… orange can be liberating – and quite spectacular – if you let it!

Here are some tips – and kissable orange hues – to try for summer:

1 – While a bold orange may be too theatrical, a coral hue (has a dab of pink in it) is just as fun but a bit more practical.

2 – A gloss with an orange tint will give you the trend without the dramatics of a matte lippy.

3 – You needn’t wear a full face of makeup when working an orange lip. Some mascara and an apricot blush and you’re good to go.

4 – Try dabbing a bold orange lippy onto your finger and blending with some Vaseline (or any clear gloss of your choosing) to create a glossy stain that is both pigmented but slightly understated.

5 – Favorite oranges: Jouer tint in Poppy (a sheer coral); Nars Lip Gloss in Giza (nectar); YSL ROUGE PUR COUTURE SPF15 13 Le Orange (Bright Orange)

Sante Naturkosmetic

By | makeup | 7 Comments

There’s a new organic color line on the horizon and it’s about to hit BIG! Sante Naturkosmetic has everything you’d want in an organic collection: wearable hues without synthetic colorants, fragrances, preservatives, petrochemicals or silicone oils.

A word (or several…) from the company:

“The entire natural cosmetics line of SANTE Natural Cosmetics satisfies the strict criteria for Certified Natural Cosmetics in accordance with the guidelines of BDIH. All products are free from synthetic colorants, fragrance, and preservatives, petrochemicals, and silicone oils. Many items from the line also qualify as vegan cosmetics.

Our skin-friendly formulations are enhanced by precious plant extracts of our own production.
Extracts of Organic Chamomile provide gentle, soothing care
Organic Pomegranate seed extracts contain beta-carotene and essential fatty acids known for their skin-protective qualities
Organic Jojoba oil protects and hydrates, leaving skin soft and smooth”

The collection ranges from eyeshadow sticks to eyeshadow trios, nail polishes to lipglosses, foundation to blush.

Prices range from $7.00 for a Lipstick Balm to $17.50 for Pressed Powder.

I love the Eyeshadow Sticks ($11.00). They give great color without being overpowering or having the effect of too much makeup. They come in earth-friendly tones and are super easy to apply. Great for a bit of color during the day.

While the packaging looks more like drugstore than department store, there’s no mistaking that organic just does a face good. And it’s all about the face, naturally.

5 Minute Makeover

By | makeup | 6 Comments

Every now and then I become obsessed with how quickly I can put on a face of makeup. I’ve gotten it down to a science, really. Not quite five minutes, but close enough, so I am calling this look the 5 minute makeover.

Here are the products that help to cut down on the makeup time:

A tinted moisturizer combines hydration with even coverage. I, of course, love Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. It’s life changing.

LipSense Long Lasting Liquid Lipcolor in Sheer Berry is a God sent. It stays on ALL DAY LONG and gives the most beautiful sheer burst of color. I finish by applying the LipSense Moisturizing Gloss.

Jouer’s Tint in Amaryllis is the best red I’ve found for the apples of my cheeks. To apply, I dust on the cream color with a blush brush for an airbrushed effect. Fast and effective.

For eyes, I am obsessed with the Senna Contouring palette. It contains light and dark colors to give eyes depth. Light highlights, dark shades in crease. Makes a smokey eye tres tres simple and quick!

Mascara finishes the look. I’m loving Make Up Forever Smoky Lash. Looks great on a sultry eye.

And there you have it. Just enough time to really freak out over outfit changes.

What are some makeup tips you use to quickly apply your face?

SPOTLIGHT: Vapour Organic Beauty

By | makeup | 7 Comments

Ah, the joy of discovering a new color line. This infant cosmetic company, on the heels of its first birthday, deserves some major notice. Vapour Organic Beauty is amazing. First of all, it’s organic and all-natural. Huge bonus. It’s also made entirely of sticks, meaning the makeup comes in roll-up tubes instead of bottles or jars which makes it SUPER EASY to apply — a little dab on your skin, blend with your fingers and you’re good to go. And the colors are spot on (pun intended). They simply look great on everyone… easy to wear, beautiful to look at, nothing too bold or trendy, these are classic, staple beauty pieces.

A word (or several…) from the company:

“Vapour’s range of high‐performance cosmetic and skincare products utilize an exciting new

the perfect balance of color and care.

Next up to try: their skincare range. If it’s at all like the cosmetics, I’ll be in beauty bliss.

The Cream Blush Scene

By | makeup | No Comments

I’ve never been a huge fan of cream blushes… until recently. I was talking with Jouer founder and Creative Director, Christina Zilber, and she taught me a life-changing blushing tip: Apply cream blush with a blush brush! Normally, cream blush is applied with your fingertips but I’ve always felt that the color disperses unevenly and ends up leaving cheeks blotchy.

Here’s how to apply: Dab the cream blush directly onto the brush. Sweep lightly over cheeks for an airbrushed effect.

That’s right! Cheeks look flawlessly airbrushed with the perfect dose of color. It’s way more natural than powder, almost looks like a tint.

Cream blushes to try:

Jouer Tint in Amaryllis – a sheer redish hue that looks great on everyone
Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Cream Blush (pictured) – I like the entire color palette, very wearable, but have been lusting over the Petticoat Pink, a true bright pink.
Nars Cream Blush in Enchanted – A soft peach with a golden undertone that looks fantastic with a tan.

Blushing Pink

By | makeup | 7 Comments

Pink is usually reserved for Spring and Summer. Come fall and winter, we are meant to blush rose and brick hues. Not anymore.

This winter is all about the pink cheek. Be it playfully coy with a hint of peach or snow bunny cozy with a dash of wine, pink still has a place in the makeup bag this season.

Here are a few of my favorite pinks:

Dolce & Gabbana The Blush in Provocative
– the perfect matte hot pink. Blushing bride comes to mind (not that I would know).

MAC Mineralize Blush Duo in Love Rocks – a bright pink iridescent that screams happy cheeks.

LORAC Baked Matte Satin Blush in Exposed – a pinky peach that gives off “flirt” better than endorphins.

TIP: For a more dramatic effect, mix your pink with a your darker rose (for rose, I’m loving Senna’s Amour). Who says that one blush is all a cheek can take?

WInter Face Cocktail

By | makeup | No Comments

As winter approaches there’s a fine line that tends to get muddled – too pale vs. too tan. You don’t want to enter the grey months looking transparent nor do you want to seem like you just took the entire bottle of spray tan and emptied it on your body. Here in lies the compromise.

I’ve discovered my perfect winter face cocktail — full coverage with a dash of tan. Nothing that looks made up, but I’ve forgone the placid thing as well. By the way, this cocktail combo looks fierce on EVERY skin type because YOU control the quantity – how much/ little color you want.

Here’s what you’ll need:

A moisturizer – I use a tinted one, Laura Mercier Oil-Free (my fave)
Foundation – I’ve been loving Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation
CARGO’S MULTI-MIX BRONZER – this is the need-to-own product of said cocktail. It’s a gel that gives off the most natural, pure colored tan. Use with moisturizer, foundation, primer or alone. Genius.

You can either mix moisturizer, foundation and bronzer or just bronzer and moisturizer for less coverage. It’ll even out skin tone and give you a light glowing complexion. The foundation adds coverage. For an extra pop, mix in Fresh’s Freshface Glow Twilight Primer to highlight brow and cheekbones — color + illuminization = perfection.

I kid not when I say that this concoction has garnered more compliments than any other face makeup I have ever used. Great for day, amazing for night. It’s all in the mix. A few pumps of each in the palm of your hand, mix together and pat on skin like you would any regular moisturizer. Finish with the beautyblender for an even, streak-free complexion.

Troy Jensen’s Fall Color Trends

By | how to, makeup, trends | One Comment

Fall is finally here! These plummeting temps sure are speaking a language all to themselves.

Here at Beauty Banter, we spoke with Kim Kardashian’s favorite makeup artist, Troy Jensen (who also works on the famous faces of Rachel McAdams, Megan Fox and Erika Jayne to name a few), to find out what looks he’s projecting as fall staples.

Here’s the dish so pay attention before the trend becomes trendy:

1. “The 1920’s and 1930’s will be inspiration for a lot of the fall collections and red carpet looks. Lady Gaga has already been shot looking like a star from the silent era. check out a make up line Illamasqua, available at Sephora.” ala Jena Malone, below.

2. “Dark smokey eyes are the look for fall. Dark charcoal, blacks and midnight blue. Check out Dior’s new Fall eyeshadow palettes. ala Erika Jayne, below.

3. “A deep berry stain and sheer gloss will put you right on trend with the seasons dark lip craze. I love Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey.” ala Kim K, below.

It looks like fall is turning out to be a bit moody, slightly brooding and fantastically dark.

Thoughts, ladies?
