The Best All-Natural Lipstick Shades To Take You Into Fall

By | favorites, makeup | 2 Comments

Yes, it’s still summer but fall is quickly approaching. With fall comes cooler temps and changing colors… this includes your makeup. While everyone – including brands – certainly have not jumped onto the all-natural and organic bandwagon, many of us are searching for toxic-free alternatives to chemically-formulated products. Considering that we ingest something like 7 pounds of lipstick in our lifetimes,  perhaps we should start the new season with a healthier pout? Here, the best all-natural lipstick shades to take you into fall:

Ilia Femme Fatale ($26) – Organic ingredients produce one pigment-packed lipstick with a semi-matte finish. The crimson-berry shade is right on-trend for fall, but, yes, all of the colors are worthy of your precious lips.

Vapour Organic Beauty Siren Lipstick in Ornate ($24) – Red is timeless and seasonless, so a classic red shade will be your best friend come fall. Vapour Organics is… you guessed it… completely organic without skimping on pigment.

Bite Beauty Butter Cream Lipstick in Pecan ($28) – Made with food-grade ingredients, all of Bite Beauty lipsticks are safe enough to eat. This new line of Butter Creams is certainly on our radar with its hand-cut and flat tipped neutrals that apply like, well… butter. Pecan is a warm dusty mauve that gives your pout a nude finish with a hint of pink perfection.

Kjaer Weis Lip Tint in Beloved ($49) – Formulated with 95% organic ingredients, this decadent, universally flattering lip tint will give you an on-trend deep berry glow while still moisturizing your precious pucker. So, if you’re not a lipstick person, then this hint of tint is for you.

Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Marsala ($24) – Touted as the it color of the year by Pantone, Marsala is certainly trending for fall. The earthy wine shade has a matte finish and is infused with healthy, toxic-free ingredients for a statement lip that won’t make you sick.

Josie Maran Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick in Happy Honey ($22) – You can never have too many nude lipsticks, especially when fall beckons a darker, smokier eye. Happy Honey is actually a three-in-one, coating lips with a moisturizing shield of Argan Oil while the center produces medium-pigment color, and the finish is almost like a gloss. Made with natural ingredients and free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates, this rose nude hue is the ideal day-to-night shade.

FAVORITES: The Bold Day Lip

By | favorites | No Comments

There’s nothing like a little color to make your face smile. And, considering that we’re officially into fall territory (although this 80 degree NYC weather could have you fooled), a pop of bold is sure to brighten even the most bleak and grey of days.

That’s why I’m currently obsessing over the bold lip — even for day wear! Yes, the bold lip has mostly been associated with your night looks – party, clubbing or a black tie affair – but I’m ready to take it to the streets (during sunlight hours, of course).

Here’s the trick – the bold day lip should be more of a tint/ stain or a creamy gloss. Stay away from the seriously pigmented lipsticks. While the color choice is up to you – red, coral, pink –  use a more sedated variation of your preferred hue and make sure that you can control the boldness. For unwanted color, pat your lips down with tissue. For more color, layer away with additional tint, stain or creamy gloss. Your lip will still be bold, but never overBOLD.

TIP: Wearing a bold lip means you are choosing to focus your makeup look on your mouth. Keep eyes and skin simple. Perhaps, a few coats of mascara and tinted moisturizer for coverage. THAT’S IT!

Here are a few of my favorite day colors for the bold lip look:

1 – Benefit Posietint – Benefit makes some amazing stains with staying power. This poppy tinted lip stain will give you the coral color your crave without the shock value of a full-out coral lipstick. If your lips look too parched with just the stain, layer with a sheer coral gloss like Dior Addict Lip Polish in Glow Expert, a sheer light coral hue.

2 – Jouer Tint in Amaryllis – I initially used this color for my cheeks, then recently started using on my lips. It’s fab! The perfect color and consistency of a creamy coral with a splash of red that gives lips the boldness without the crazy brightness.

3 – Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stain in Lust – I am so obsessed with Tarte’s lip stains, I think I’ve hit up every color in the range! Lust is a classic red, but ti’s consistency – part stain, part sheen – let’s it be a perfectly acceptable day bold. Plus, you can control the boldness depending on how many times you layer it on your lips.

4 – Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Scarlet – This is a deep red, Old Hollywood Glam, hue and I’m digging rocking it during day light hours. It’s a great stain because you can apply with your fingers, it doesn’t move at all, yet still gives your lips some serious color (more of a sheen color, however). I use a very little, and I pat on lightly. Make no mistakes, even with the tiniest pat, your lips will still be unmistakably red.

5 – Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Stain in Amused – I’m a huge fan of the fuchsia lip. With so many variation of hot pink – fluorescent, matte, bright, etc – it’s like a game of try and repeat until you find the perfect shade. Once again, Tarte’s amazing lip stain wins the honors. Part stain, part sheen, this hot pink is definitely bold, but the brightness is controlled by how many layers you choose to apply. A single layer provides just a hint, a few more gives you a sheen hot pink lip. Perfect to get your day lip on.

Acceptable places to wear the day bold lip: the office, lunch with a friend ala ladies who lunch, carpool…

Unacceptable places to wear the day bold lip: a business meeting (use at your discretion), a somber event (may be too happy of a hue), first time you meet his parents (could send the wrong message)…

Are YOU feeling the bold day lip?

WEEKLY MUST-HAVE: Vapour Organics Elixir Plumping Lip Gloss

By | weekly must-have | No Comments

Here’s a funny story. I have this lip gloss in my bag and I use it on almost a daily basis. The color is magnificent – a sheer plumish hue – and the formula is perfect – just enough shine without the stickiness, and a pop of plumpness for an added bit of rad.

So, I’m exchanging emails with this awesome makeup artist, Eric Sakas, as I’m researching the exact brand of my new must-have lippy. Now, here’s where the story gets crazy: The brand that manufactures the Elixir lippy is called Vapour Organics. Eric Sakas is the CREATOR of Vapour Organic Beauty! How random is that!! I just emailed him gushing over my love for the lippy and my need to try every color in the range.

You know why I love the Elixir lippy, now let me tell you a bit about the colors. There are 12 (swatches below) and they run the color gamut from a baby pink to an earthy brown to a blood red. I am obsessed with the color Vivid (a sheer plum). I use it to make my lips about 2 shades darker than they are and saturated with shine – so that boys will want to kiss them!

As I mentioned, the formula is quite sheen with just the right amount of color, but if you want more boldness you can layer to your likeness (or on top of a favorite lipstick or lip stain).

The most important feature of this gloss is that it’s all natural, organic, in fact. Made with 70% Certified Organic ingredients and 30% natural mineral pigments & vitamins, this stuff is healthy for your lips, your body and the environment.

A word (or several…) from the company:
“Elixir rejuvenates lips with anti-oxidant rich Acai and Goji berries and ultra hydrating, vitamin rich Organic Lecithin and Jojoba oil. Elixir contains Vapour’s lip specific infusion of hydrating Myrrh, healing Lemon Balm, antioxidant Green Tea and anti-microbial Iceland Moss.”

You heard it here: this gloss will forever change your idea of a natural lip gloss. It’s SO good, it’s on par with MAC, NARS and Chanel (in fact, even less sticky than the big brands).

Now I’m off to try the other 11 colors in the range!

TREND: Coral, The Color For Summer

By | trends | 5 Comments

With just over a month left of summer, we thought we’d give you one final color trend you need to be wearing come beach or bbq – coral! Just last week Rose Byrne was spotted wearing a coral lip to the  Zimmerman 2011 Resort Collection dinner in Hollywood. Celebrity makeup artist Fiona Stiles created the “bright, happy” look.

We spoke with Fiona along with 4 other amazingly gifted makeup artists to find out their tips on how to wear coral right, why coral is summer’s it color, and their must-have product recommendations.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Fiona Stiles: “Coral works on all skin tones and is more fun and festive than a red or pink lip (it also makes teeth look nice and white). It’s less vixeny than red and more sophisticated than shocking pink. With fair skin it gives a beautiful contrast to the skin and with warmer skin tones it brings out the pretty golden undertones.”

Product Picks: “My hands down favorite coral lipstick is Ginger Fawn from Tom Ford’s Private Collection. It’s not too orange, not too pink amd is the perfect texture.”

M·A·C Cosmetics Senior Artist Chantel Miller: “The coral trend is about the 70’s coming back. The trend began lightly in NY and then in Milan.  The difference this season is thatcoral is being used as a monochromatic “look” rather than a single point of reference in a makeup.  What makes this easy to wear is that one product can be used in multiple places.

Remember coral will always be a color that is celebrated in trend because it is a basic skin tone enhancer for a glamorous smokey eye, an angelic dash of color when romantic makeup is the rage and just an all around shade that works well at anytime.  When the trend focuses on coral you can really let it loose!”

Product Picks: “Try MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush in Peaches or M·A·C PRO Cream Colour Base in Virgin Isle, lightly applied to eyes lips and cheeks, the trick is to keep it all quite sheer.  Perfectly applied mascara is a must, try M·A·C Cosmetics Mascara in Haute & Naughty Lash, and slightly tanned skin can really work if coral feels like too much color for you, try M·A·C Cosmetics Bronzing Powder in Matte Bronze or Refined Golden.”

Lancôme National Makeup Artist Alex Sanchez: “Coral has a wonderful brightening effect for the face. Be sure to choose coral lipstick shades that are creamy and glossy vs. matte and metallic. Think modern beach-peachy vs. dated frosty-apricot.”

Celebrity Makeup Artist Beau Nelson: “Coral makeup looks great on everyone, and its particularly easy to wear in the summer months when you have a bit of a tan, although I also love coral makeup on very pale skin.

Coral cream blush is a must have for summer because its easy and its dual purpose. Using your index finger and middle finger pick up product and then rub the product on the same fingers from the opposite hand. Use a gentle tapping motion on the cheeks with both hands at once to evenly distribute the color onto the cheeks, and the tapping motion will blend it for you.

A bright coral lip is a great summer evening statement. Apply straight from the tube and then use a light tapping motion of your index finger to push the color out to the edges so its soft and blended looking. Dust bronzer all over the face and add two coats of mascara to complete the look. Softly metallic coral blush is a pretty way to enhance skin, try layering it over an existing matte blush to add dimension and create a shade all your own.”

Product Picks: NARS Gina blush; MAC Virgin Isle Cream Color Base; Illamasqua Mistress Intense Gloss; Chanel Orange Fizz Nail Color; Glominerals Passion Fruit Lipstick”

Dior Celebrity Makeup Artist Ricky Wilson: “Coral is always a great color to wear in the summer because it looks best on sun kissed skin. It is also a color that any skin tone can wear with confidence if done right.

Eyes: Wearing color is tough for many women but if you keep the brighter color sweep on your lids you will avoid looking to bright and made up. Coral shades can be worn as an instant eye popping look in just a few steps. I like to take one color and sweep it on the lid blending up to the crease, followed by a touch of brown eye pencil and Diorshow Blackout mascara.

Cheeks: Who doesn’t love a nice summer flush?? It’s the easiest way to pull your look together in the summer without adding lots of makeup. One of my fave summer looks is blushing the apples of the cheeks with the new Diorblush in Pink in Love and adding a touch of mascara and lip gloss.

Lips: Corals can be bold or sheer for the lips as both look amazing depending on your own personal style of makeup. The key to wearing coral in the summer is ditch the harsh lip liner. You want the edges of your pout to look soft and natural. Try blotting the lipstick on with your finger starting in the center of your mouth and work out towards the edges. Feel free to gloss this look for a nice succulent lip or keep it demi matte for a retro coral effect.”

My favorite coral color picks:

Lancome Replenishing & Enhancing Lipcolor in Coral Ribbon

Givenchy Gloss Interdit in Succulent Orange

Rouge Dior in Coral Serum

Too Faced Full Bloom Cheek & Lip Creme Color In Prim & Poppy

Aubrey Organics Powder Blush in Bronzed Peach

Trend Alert: Orange Lips For Summer

By | trends | One Comment

Orange is all the rage for the summer pout, and while you may be thinking, “this is SO not wearable,” think again… orange can be liberating – and quite spectacular – if you let it!

Here are some tips – and kissable orange hues – to try for summer:

1 – While a bold orange may be too theatrical, a coral hue (has a dab of pink in it) is just as fun but a bit more practical.

2 – A gloss with an orange tint will give you the trend without the dramatics of a matte lippy.

3 – You needn’t wear a full face of makeup when working an orange lip. Some mascara and an apricot blush and you’re good to go.

4 – Try dabbing a bold orange lippy onto your finger and blending with some Vaseline (or any clear gloss of your choosing) to create a glossy stain that is both pigmented but slightly understated.

5 – Favorite oranges: Jouer tint in Poppy (a sheer coral); Nars Lip Gloss in Giza (nectar); YSL ROUGE PUR COUTURE SPF15 13 Le Orange (Bright Orange)

TREND ALERT: Bright Lips for Summer

Lily Rabe (Getty Images)
A bright, splash of lip color seems the perfect way to welcome summer, just as Lily Rabe did at the Tonys. Nominated for her role as Portia in the The Merchant of Venice, Lily arrived in a white, backless gown by Prabal Gurung and coral-hued lips courtesy of Tina Turnbow for tarte.

We’re huge fans of tarte and Tina here at BB, so we’re thrilled to share Tina’s tips for getting Lily’s eco-chic red carpet look at home.

Tina applied tarte’s new maracuja creaseless concealer in fair, before sweeping Lily’s cheeks a peachy-pink hue, with Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in peaceful (you can find both items in this kit, here). To highlight her cheekbones, Tina brushed on provocateur Amazonian clay shimmer powder in champagne.

For a “look all about the lashes,” Tina started with tarte’s neutralEYES natural eyeshadow palette in volume II, and used emphasEYES™ high definition inner rim eyeliner pencil in black to line the upper, inner rim “for more definition and to intensify the lash line.” Tina finished off the eyes with gifted Amazonian clay smart mascara.

For lips, Tina mixed Lipsurgence lip tints in fiery and joy to get the perfect shade of coral.

Without the weight of face makeup, which always feels too heavy as temps soar, Lily’s dramatic lips and eyes are the perfect evening look for the warmest days of summer!

I’m loving the bright lippy trend, too. Here are my favorite picks for a bit of summer color:

tarte 24-7 lip sheers. They’re like chapstick all grown up with the added benefit of SPF 15. For evening, I layer deep rose with a bit of gloss for deep, dramatic color. (Loving Vapour cosmetics Elixir glosses.)
– Korres ultra hydrating, deeply hued cherry oil glosses in red and natural purple.

– Korres lip butter in wild rose and pomegranate (also great for a bit of cheek color in a pinch).

– And, my favorite tarte product of all time, their cheek stain, reborn as rise and shine lip stains. I’m loving the cherry stain/gloss duo.

As much as I love bright color, I wasn’t sure I could pull of a red-orange hue, even a less vibrant one than Lily’s. But when Jules told me about the great new Revlon gloss she’s discovered in her quest for the perfect orangey-red, I had to give it a try. She warned that in the tube, Revlon’s Firecracker was intense. But applied, it’s more like a stain. It reminds me of the popsicles we used to have at summer camp and the tint they left behind. Only with a great bit of shine and zero stickiness.

Hello, sunshine! xo a.

I’m back!

Sorry, I’ve been a  bit MIA, I was actually in MIA (as in, MIAMI) and took a few days off the blog. But, alas, I am back in NYC and it’s finally beginning to feel like Spring.

So, to celebrate my return – to blogging and NYC – I thought we’d start off with a timely FAVORITES post, the trusty lip stain. Absolute perfection for spring and summer, especially while running from pool to ocean – stays on all day, sweat-proof and doesn’t look like you’re actually wearing much makeup at all!

To recap my Girls Guide to Stains, click here.

As for some of this season’s favorite stains, have a read:

Benefit Benetint – I cannot write this post without mentioning the purveyor of stains near and far, Benetint – a true, blood red lip stain that doubles as a cheek tint too. Gives lips a natural flush hue.

Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip & Cheek Stain – With 9 wonderfully pigmented colors to choose from, there is something to suit every lip. And the marker makes application fun and precise.

CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain – DRUGSTORE FIND! Another pen, with so many colors to choose from. Fun, easy, precise application. Not to be used on cheeks. Really leaves a nice stain on the pucker!

Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain & Color Seal Balm – NEW! A 2-for-1 – a stain on one side, a lip balm on the other. Wear alone or together for added shine (with a hint of hue). Choose from 6 color combos.

The Balm Stainiac – Comes in 3 colors and is fitted with a wand and sponge applicator. Gives great natural color to the lips that stays put for hours.

Review: Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm

By | makeup | 7 Comments

“I’m a not-so-closeted makeup addict. I love testing, trying, buying and applying! This guilty pleasure began early on in life while in boarding school. A two-mile walk got me to a CVS, which was about as thrilling as it got. So, naturally, I went bonkers and I bought every moisturizer, shampoo and eyeliner possible.

The therapeutic euphoria of perusing the isles of a drugstore remains as strong, 10 years later. My roomie has to interrogate my Walgreens joy rides as if she were questioning the whereabouts of a rebellious Tween. “Where were you? What did you buy? How many? How much? Didn’t you just buy a lip balm? What is Witch Hazel and why?” But I thank her for it, because without her policing, I would be broke and homeless with a ton of moisturizers.

But I digress… Let’s talk lippies!

During my last therapy session at Walgreens; I landed on the Neutrogena section. I love me some Neutrogena. Maybe it’s marketing, maybe it’s the truth, but I feel like their products will actually protect and help my skin, versus clogging my pores.

So, when my eye caught this gem, I knew I had to reach out to Beauty Banter about it:

Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm. The product description from Neutrogena: “This sheer tinted balm with patent-pending ion_complex™ instantly moisturizes lips, leaving them looking fuller and more defined.” Ok, I believe that’s fancy talk for ‘this is a lip balm’. But in all seriousness the tint is great and subtle, and it does go on smoothly.

“In just one week, it helps improve lips’ texture and restores the look of rosiness, so lips look naturally beautiful even after you take it off.” I’m actually going to call truth on this one, my lips were chapped like a cowboy on Monday afternoon and by Friday, I didn’t even need lip balm!

“SPF 20 helps protect lips and keeps them looking healthy.” TOTES! Love the SPF factor! Neutrogena does a great job at sneaking in SPF into their lippies, making it worth the extra $ versus my $1.99 chap stick. We gotta protect those lips so we don’t end up with the mouth lines of a 90 yr old Atlantic City Casino regular.

Pros:

• Truly hydrating. I applied only once or twice a day and it really did save my lips. I mean, this is not Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream repair style, but it goes beyond what your average tinted balm does.
• Moisturizing: My lips are always chapped; pretty sure I sleep with my mouth open, so I look like I’ve returned from an expedition to Siberia every morning. I don’t need a lip salve, I need a lip saver. This one saves my lips.
• Lasts long: Nothing news-breaking, but it stayed on my lips thru a diet Pepsi
• SPF 20!
• Fab Colors:
Sheer Shimmer: delicate shimmer, so you don’t look like you put your disco lips on for breakfast. Which is, depending on your lifestyle, either a good or a bad thing. Tip: Put a dab on your bottom lip for a subtle lip plump.
Healthy Blush: Sold out in all the Walgreens I visited… so I’m guessing its fab L
Sunny Berry: Bright yet not overwhelming pink red color; stands out for sure; perf for beach!
Petal Glow: Favorite! It’s a dark pink- lavender shimmer (looks great on blondes and pale folk like moi).
Soft Caramel: I have way too many pink undertones for this color to ever look good on me, but it would work for olive skin complexions. Looked good on my friends.
Fresh Plum: dark terra cotta red; great for going out when you rock heavy mascara and cat eye look, but want something other than a shimmer as a lippie.
• Flavor: a very subtle, pleasant hint of fruit can’t but barely detectable.
• Texture: Smooth, light… feels similar to Nivea lip care
• The tube: the tube is flatter, more oval shaped, so more precise application and not as noticeable if put in back pocket. It’s nothing special in terms of design, but it’s a subtle sophisticated black tube. It also won’t roll off your desk, makeup counter, etc.
• Peeps agree: 4.8 out of 5 rating on Neutrogena

Cons:

• The tube: While it looks sleek and sophisticated, It’s also hard to locate in your purse
• The taste: Ok, it’s got SPF 20; so if you get some in your mouth it does taste like sunscreen, but I’d rather that than lip lines, for sure.
• Expensive: retails at $8.99. If it didn’t have the tint, I wouldn’t pay that much. I would just go back to a personal favorite and beautybanter.com discovery: EOS lip sphere
• Other comparable products:
Burt’s bees tinted lip balms: $7. Tried it… definitely not a fan of the color I bought… a bland Flintstones-vitamin orange. (Hibiscus). Also, no SPF

BOTTOM LINE: I’m a believer! They provide a lot of color for being lip balms and would look great for a day at the beach and girls night out. From one drugstore Junkie to another, I highly recommend”

Thanks to our fabulous reader Laura Healy for writing in with this wonderful product review! We, too, are believers! xo, Beauty Banter.

5 Tips For Making Your Lips Larger

By | how to | No Comments

Plump me up, please! And hold the needles. I want larger lips and I DON’T want to have to go under the knife (or needle) to get them.

Well, this post is for you. Here’s 5 great tips to plump that pucker au naturel….

1. Remember to exfoliate your lips – you can use a toothbrush and some vaseline or try something a little more sophisticated like Sara Happ’s The Lip Scrub ($24.00). Tastes like molasses as it scrubs lips to make them soft and flake-free.

2. Use a flesh-colored liner to outline lips before filling in with gloss or lipstick – don’t extend the line all the way to the outer corners of lips, allow the line to look like it goes on forever, making it darker in the middle will bring fullness to your pucker.

3. Use a highlighter on your cupid’s bow – model Jessica Stam taught me this trick and I love it! It really does open up the width of your lips. Try Jouer’s Champagne highlighter. **Christina (owner of Jouer) Tip: “Apply on the center of bottom lip before applying lipstick or lipgloss to give lips a fuller pout.”

4. Stay away from matte lippies. Always end your lipstick routine with a touch of super shine gloss. Something that plumps your lips is perfect. Try the oldie but goodie: Duwop’s Lip Venom ($17.00). It feels like a sting but really plumps that pucker.

5. Hydrate your lip area with moisturizer! Even mid-day, carry around Aquaphor and dab around your mouth for hydration and shine.

LIPS THAT STAY: LipSense

By | Uncategorized | 7 Comments

There’s nothing better than starting the week off with a great, new lippy. And WOW, have I uncovered a fabulous discovery: LipSense – it’s genius, really.

LipSense isn’t exactly a stain or a gloss or a stick – it’s a little bit of all 3. It’s a stick in the sense that there is powerful color, a stain because the color doesn’t move from your lips and a gloss because you can accompany the hue with a moisture gloss for a shimmery pop while keeping the color in place. The company calls LipSense “kiss-proof, smudge-proof, budge-proof” and that it is. Color lasts for up to 12 hours WITHOUT the need to reapply. I checked it out for myself and, while it didn’t last the entire 12 hours, it lasted through coffee, meals and a little dirty dancing. 🙂

LipSense comes in a variety of colors – anything from apple red to a purple plum or nude mauve. Check out all of the hues here.

And if you mess up, no worries, they sell an OOPS stick ($10.00) too which literally erases your mistakes.

LipSense stings a bit and feels a tad sticky upon application but all that goes away leaving your lips glammed up with color. I’m a huge fan of so many of the shades but I really adore the ones that look a shade or two darker than my lips, something naturally fleshy and positively radiant.

A word (or several…) from the company:

“To apply, start in center of top lip (cupid’s bow) apply to one side, then apply to the other side of top lip. Do this three more times (three coats). Then start at one corner of your bottom lip, apply Lipsense in one direction taking it to the other side of lip, apply three coats total. If your lips are partially dry or dehydrated you may feel them tingle upon initial application. Apply the LipSense Gloss over LipSense to relieve tingling, and moisturize (it has Shea Butter).

After a few days of continued use, your lips will no longer tingle upon application. If you make a mistake use the Ooops! Remover to erase errors. Once LipSense is on you should not have to re-apply for approximately 6-12 hours (depending on your body’s PH balance). Eating greasy food may break down the formula sooner. Other than that, just apply LipSense once a day and re-apply the gloss when needed.”

So go and kiss your main squeeze, have a late-night dessert splurge, drink a glass of vino with that someone special. No need to worry about your lips – they’ll stay perfectly in place — finally.
