Makeup: Lancome Holiday 2011 by Kate Winslet

By | makeup | One Comment

For some, the holidays are a time to come together with family, drink eggnog and sing carols (that’s what people do, right?). For me, the holidays are a time to play dress up with holiday makeup collections!

First up is the Lancome limited-edition color collection by Kate Winslet. The brand ambassadress and British hottie has teamed up with her favorite makeup brand to create 3 products purrrfect for the holiday vixen in you. Kate is raising awareness for  The Golden Hat Foundation that improves the lives of people living with autism. Lancome has already pledging 150 Euros to the cause. Giving back is tres tres beautiful.

Back to the products: A fire engine red lippy that screams “kiss me under the mistletoe.” A matching red nail lacquer that says, “let me tickle you under the mistletoe.” And an illuminating smooth face powder ($42.00) – dubbed the Golden Hat as homage to the charity – that begs to be looked at, adored and photographed (under the mistletoe). The L’absolu Rouge ($29.00) comes in 5 colors, the Caprice, true red, being my fave and an amazing holiday red). Le Vernes polishes ($15.00) come in 5 colors that coincide with the lippies.

I’ve already jump started my Holiday look and sported the new apple red lip and face shimmer to a SoHo House dinner with friends. And, P.S., I could totes see Kate wearing the goods (especially the red lippy as red is pretty much her go-to).

When wearing a red lip, I like to keep the focus on my mouth (kiss me, kiss me), so I leave my eyes simple: defined arches and a coat of mascara. Skin should be flawless and the illuminating sparkle from the face powder adds that Holiday glow and festive cheer.

So far, I’m loving the holidays….

Trend Forecasting: New York Fashion Week S/S 2011

By | trends | 2 Comments

New York Fashion Week is literally days away and I thought it would be educational to start off the festivities with a forecast of trends to come. With this in mind, I asked Daniel Martin, Lancome makeup artist who will be working his magic at the Chris Benz show next Monday, for his take on the top 5 trends we are bound to see on the runway come Thursday, February 10, 2011.

Here’s what Daniel had to say:

1.      Eye shadows are back—We’ve seen lips for so long, women will experiment with their eyes again, especially with the use color!  Either it be a turquoise or aubergine shadow palettes (like Lancôme’s 5 Pan Palettes in Teal Fury and Mauve Chérie) or a bright colored eyeliner, the focus will be all eyes!

2.      Luminized skin—Skin will be radiant with shimmer creating a lit-from-within effect.

3.      Sheer pop of color on the mouth—Rather than lipstick, sheer textures with clear color will make an impact.

4.      Sculpted eyes and cheeks—You’re going to see “strength” on the face. More emphasis on accenting and accentuating, rather than intense color.

5.      “NO Makeup” makeup—Modern and very 90’s, we’ll see a lot more monochromatic color for fall. Case in point, Emma Stone’s makeup at the Golden Globes (pictured). Fresh with matching cheek, lip and eye colors harmonizing the entire look.

GIRL CRUSH: Julia Roberts

By | celebrity looks | 6 Comments

The countdown begins… only hours left until EAT, PRAY, LOVE hits the theater, and I can’t wait. At the Los Angeles premiere of the film, Julia Roberts gave her game-face, looking like a real screen siren.

Let’s start with the hair – flat-iron curls to elongate the look — I LOVE this style, always have since way back when Nicole Richie made it famous. And Julia does it justice.

Moving on to the face, I love this sultry, natural smokey eye and nude lip combo, a staple of Julia’s. She looks done up, but not overdone.

Julia’s red carpet makeup was created by celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr. Since Julia is a Lancome Ambassadress, much of the makeup is from the cosmetic’s company.  And here we have the products used to create the look!

INSPIRATION: a chic and modern look that played up Julia’s light brown eyes and her sleek black ensemble.

FACE: For a natural complexion, Genevieve used Lancome’s new Teint Miracle Foundation, an amazing radiance-boosting foundation launching next month, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer and Secret Brightening Powder followed by a cream blush in plum on the apples of the cheeks.

EYES: She wanted to give Julia soft, smoky eyes with a mix of blacks and plums.  To achieve this, she first applied Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to line the eyes and then blended shadows from fall’s French Coquettes collection called the French Touch Color Design Quad.  Her lashes were topped with Définicils Precious Cells Mascara in Black for a full, natural lash.

LIPS: She finished the look with a neutral lip using Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural, Color Design Lipstick in Love It! and a touch of Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for the perfect photo-ready pout.

Here’s to hoping the movie is as good as the red carpet face!

Red Be A Lady: Old Hollywood Glam Lips

Current must-have red lippy: Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lipcolor in Red Revival, #645, an apple-crimson hue.

Mood: Old-Hollywood Glam

Have you checked out Maybelline’s new casing (left)? It’s beyond classy, reminding me exactly of Lancome’s casing for their lippies. In fact, I mixed my Maybelline regal red with a hint of the Lancome P.S. Kiss (limited edition) deep red/ burgundy for an added edginess (the dark, moody lips are a major fall trend) while still keeping it classic. Just dab the darker color in the center of lips and blot together.

Lancome Fall 2009: Declaring Indigo

By | Uncategorized | 2 Comments

It looks like blue is shaping up to be the color for fall! I’m a little apprehensive, although I do have some time (3 months) to get acclimated with the hue.

Lancome recently unveiled their Fall 2009 line, Declaring Indigo with model Daria Werbowy.

Here’s what I know:

*The collection was created by Lancôme artistic director for makeup Aaron De Mey, this collection celebrates Paris in all its vibrancy. Aaron chose shades that represent the glamour, the energy and the passion of Paris—indigo blue, bright red and luxurious gold.

*At Chris Benz Fashion Week, all 3 Le Vernis nail colors were showcased: Golden Audacity, Indigo Paris and Rouge Liberty.

*Nordstrom has a limited-edition Declaring Indigo brush-and-makeup bag set available so click here to pre-order!

*The entire collection goes on sale in August…

While Sarah spends some time on the Atlantic, I’m planning a staycation this summer in LA. June totally snuck up on me (wasn’t it just February?) and though I’m ready to pull out the skirts and dresses that get me through triple digit weather, my skin isn’t so sure.

Most of the year I live by the mantra that “pale is the new tan.” While I wear SPF daily, my skin has a yellow undertone and given the chance will turn freckly and tan. I like a bit of color when the temperatures rise but I prefer mine in a bottle. I love, love, love Lancome’s Flash Bronzer Instant Colour Self-Tanning Leg Gel, which is a favorite amongst many, including Lucky Mag beauty editor Jean Godfrey-June who often raves about it. Why so great? First off, it’s tinted with a subtle shimmer, making it possible for me to actually get a faux tan without streaks or missed spots (is it possible, you ask? it is.). Second, it dries fast and develops a golden color that looks sunkissed not Sunkist. Even on the fairest of skin.

I always prep by exfoliating, then add a dab of Alba Un-Petroleum Jelly on knees, elbows, heels and cuticles. To maintain the color, I moisturize daily with Korres Yoghurt Body Butter. The result is a week of great summer color without the sun damage. Then it’s back to the bottle. The icing on the cake? Unlike many tanners this one is paraben free and scored pretty well for its eco-responsibility at The Good Guide (if you don’t know this site already, I suggest bookmarking it now). What’s not to love? xoalex.

Get the Look: Angelina Jolie At Cannes

By | celebrity looks | No Comments

This is, by far, my favorite Cannes look of the festival. And I just found out what products Angie used!

Here you go:

Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created the glamorous look for Angelina Jolie at the Cannes Film Festival. To define Angelina’s lashes Mary used two different mascaras, Lancôme Hypnôse in Black andLancôme Ôscillation in Black and applied a few coats of both to add volume and length. Mary used Lancôme Color Design Lipstick in Candy Apple to create her voluptuous red pout.

I am buying Candy Apple asap… I want an Angelina pucker!

Lancome Favorites

I had the pleasure of attending a Lancôme dinner the other evening with the remarkable Erin Cerminara, Manager, Lancôme Public Relations & Artist Relations, and the talented Darais, Lancôme National Makeup Artist (both pictured below).

My fellow beauty enthusiasts and I were treated to a delicious Italian cuisine, Lancôme gossip (did you know that the company is launching a natural version of their coveted Juicy Tubes?) and a slew of great makeup tips (like never add shimmer to mature skin!).

I asked a few of the girls to dish on their favorite Lancôme products. Here’s what made the cut:

Charli from TheDailyObsession.net; your Source for Shopping & Style
Fave: Le Lipstique LipColouring Stick with Brush in Rougelle
Why: It keeps red lips on all day, and the pro-quality brush is super convenient for applying.

Amber from Beauty Junkies Unite; daily beauty product reviews, makeup tips & tricks and beauty advice at your fingertips.
Fave: Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover
Why: This classic is often imitated by companies but can never be duplicated! The best eye makeup remover in my opinion, hands down.

Cindy from Hello Dollface; a beauty site that combines makeup reviews, books, celebrities and health features into one neat little package.
Fave: Juicy Tubes
Why: For several years these little tubes of sexy gloss have been coating my lips with moisture and subtle color. I use them over lipstick or by themselves and almost always have one tucked in my pocket or purse.

Sarah (me) from Beauty Banter; if you’re reading this, then chances are you know about the site!
Fave: High Definicils Mascara in Deep Black (with the plastic bristles ’cause you know how I heart a good plastic wand).
Why: There’s a reason why this mascara has secured cult status, winning the Allure Editor’s Choice Award… it works, it really works! The Definicils is the very first mascara that ever graced my lashes (my mom swore by it) and the formula still holds a special place in my heart – and in my makeup bag.

Dark, goth lips are all the glam this Fall. But turning runway trends into real-life wearable beauty can be a bit of a feat.

Thanks to Lancome’s new artistic director, Aaron de Mey, we now have some tips on how to make the trend work on an everyday pout:

(the look)

Says Lancome: ” Debuting in November – Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black ($48.00) – is part of a luxe lip set created by Aaron de Mey. It features the black gloss and Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red, inspired by the red of a Christian Louboutin sole. (A low-pigment black gloss is easy to wear alone and can be blended with other shades for a little drama.). Aaron is a big adherent of having fun with makeup, so the idea is to wear the colors alone or to customize your own shade by mixing them together. Aaron also loves to use Piha Black as an eye gloss, by the way.”

(the products)

I cannot wait to try this lip duo!
And, starting NOW, you can add yourself to the wait list by calling Bloomingdale’s 59th Street (212-705-2886).

Hurry, there are only 500 sets being sold in the USA!
