At the Golden Globes 2010, January Jones definitely let it all hang out! And WOW did she look amazing.
Here, Frederic Fekkai stylist Renato Campora dishes on how to get the look:

Campora was inspired by the styles of the 1960’s, which he believes is one of the most striking decades for beauty. His look created for January channels old Hollywood glamour, with a modern twist that is full of volume and timeless elegance.
On wet hair, Campora began by applying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Styling Whip to create volume and Fekkai Coiff™ Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm to smooth out the hair.  He parted the hair to the side and blow dried using a round brush.  To create waves, he put hair in hot rollers and let them sit for 10 minutes.  Once he took the rollers out, Campora brushed through the hair creating volume and constructing shape for the style. To finish off her look, Renato sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray for all night hold.

Chanel Beauty is responsible for that ravishing red pout. Here, the face:

JANUARY JONES / Makeup Artist Rachel Goodwin

Beauty Inspiration:
“January’s look was all about strength – there was nothing demure about it! I wanted to go for a super strong brow, and a high gloss red lip.  90’s
supermodel meets old Hollywood glamour!”

Beauty Tip:
“The makeup was simple with two strong elements.  I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate. I then sculpted her cheeks with CHANEL Bronzing Makeup Base.  On her lids, I used a wash of champagne coloured shadow, CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Liberty.  I created a strong, bold defined brow with the CHANEL Perfect Brows palette, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir.  Finally, I knew I wanted to go for a glossy red lip as opposed to a matte red, to keep the look fresh
and not too retro.  I used an amazing red gloss, CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Excess, to complete January’s strong red carpet look.”

GIRL CRUSH: Anne Hathaway

By | celebrity looks | 7 Comments

Annie’s really grown up from being the awkward teen in the Princess Diaries flicks. At her premiere for Love And Other Drugs, she looked like a red carpet pro!

Here are the deets:

INSPIRATION: Adir Abergel was inspired by the 70’s

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Adir started by applying the Fekkai Full Blown Volume™ Styling Whip on wet hair.   Using a round brush, he dried the hair completely.  With a 1 ¼ inch curling iron, Adir curled the hair into barrel curls and pinned the hair leaving it to cool. Once cooled, he took out the curls and brushed hair with a flat brush.  Then, he set the hair with Fekkai Coiff Magnifique Ultra-Light Finishing Crème and secured with Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray.

INSPIRATION: “For the premiere of Love and Other Drugs in Los Angeles, Anne wore a
creamy dress which was so amazing, it evoked images from Fellini Movies, so
I decided on a modern day La Dolce Vita.” — Chanel Makeup Artist, Kate Lee (SIDE NOTE: Isn’t Anne the Lancome spokeschick?!?)

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate, then smoothed and evened the skin tone with CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup so as to keep the
skin approachable, but peachy.  I used CHANEL Éclat Lumière in Beige Rosé to brighten under the eyes, and the brow bone. Then, on the lid I carefully blended CHANEL Ombre D’eau Fluid Eyeshadow in Delta, taking care not to blend too far above the socket. Next, I used Laura Mercier Caviar liner to trace two perfect lines along the lash line, making them more definite towards the outer edges. I spent quite a bit of time working on Anne’s brows, gently filling and fixing with Anastasia Brow Gel.

On her cheeks and across the bridge of the nose I used Nars blush In Lovejoy. Anne’s lip colour was CHANEL Rouge Allure Laque in Santal which is a gorgeous shade between a peach and a salmon pink. It is purely a gloss with no shimmer. I love this colour!  Lashes were curled and given a coat of CHANEL Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, and then I applied a full
set of strip lashes for a liddy effect.”

Get The Look: Kristen Bell

By | celebrity looks | 2 Comments

Star of “You Again,” Kristen Bell, has never looked better. Her strands are the perfect shade of blonde (not that over-bleached, bottle blonde look), her face is made-up but still youthful and this hair style gives her red carpet romanticism.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Mai Quynh is responsible for the face. Here are the deets:

INSPIRATION: “Kristen was wearing a stunning yellow and white laced dress by Valentino, so I wanted to give her bold smoky eyes and subtle nude lips to compliment it.”

Face: “I started by applying mark See Things Clearly Brightening Moisturizer to her face, followed by mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Natural with the mark Foundation Brush for a gorgeous smooth finish. To even out any flaws and create a completely even canvas, I applied mark Good Riddance Hook Up Concealer in Light/Medium around her nose and under her eyes. I set her foundation with mark Powder Buff Natural Skin Foundation in Natural. After the powder had set the foundation, I dusted mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder in Pro Golden to her cheeks, chin and forehead, using the mark Blush Brush. For a natural looking blush, I dusted mark Good Glowing Custom Pick Powder Blush in After Glo using the mark Angled Contour Face Brush to her cheeks.”

Eyes: “To create Kristen’s smoky eye, I used several shades from the mark On The Dot Eye Color Compact. Using the mark Hook Up Eyeshadow Brush, I applied the cream colored shade to her inner eyelid for a highlighting effect and swept the bronze shade to the middle of her eyelid, blending outwards with the same brush. Next, I applied the dark brown shade to the outer corners of her eyes and blended into the crease and upwards towards the brow bone using the mark Hook Up Angled Eyeshadow Brush. I then smudged the same dark brown color underneath and along her lower lashes using the mark Flat Eyeliner Brush. I finished off the look with two coats of mark Scanda-Lash Hook Up Mascara in Blacklash.”

Lips: “To keep Kristen’s lips looking neutral and dewy, I used mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Bare Hug.”

Frédéric Fekkai’s Ange Grmoyles tended to the tresses.

INSPIRATION: An imperfect yet romantic style.

GET THE LOOK: Ange started by spraying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume™ Lifting Hairspray to the roots of the hair and rough dried it with her fingers. She then wrapped sections of hair around a one inch curling iron, leaving the ends straight. Next Ange applied the Fekkai Au Naturel Dry Shampoo to the crown of her head and teased the hair before pinning the half up-do in place. To shape the face, Ange left her bangs creating a romantic style. To secure the look, she then applied Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray for all night hold.

Proenza is seriously one of my all time favorite clothing lines so I was delighted to see that the hair for Spring coming off the runway was equally glam.

Paul Hanlon, lead stylist for Frédéric Fekkai, created a rough, tousled half-twist with volume and wave. It’s all very epic and romantic.

GET THE LOOK: Hanlon began by applying Fekkai’s Coiff™ Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray heavily throughout the hair from roots to ends, creating texture and fullness.

Using a diffuser, he finger-combed the hair dry.

Hanlon then loosely gathered and tucked the top half of the hair into a french twist at the nape of the neck, leaving a few long layers of hair free.

To obtain the modern style, he left the ends out of the twist and sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray all over, to secure the look.

This is a style I’d wear off a runway, perhaps to a benefit or a chic party. Proenza scores again!

GIRL CRUSH: Kate Beckinsale at the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival "Robin Hood" Premiere

By | celebrity looks, hair | 3 Comments

One of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer brought out the A-listers last night in Cannes. Kate Beckinsale looked nothing short of perfection. Tending to her tresses was the great Adir Abergel for Frederic Fekkai.

This updo screams sophistication and where else to wear such a style but at the Cannes Film Festival? Movie star glam to the max.

Here’s how to get the look:

INSPIRATION: Abergel wanted to create something with lots of volume and structure to mirror the full chiffon skirt of the dress.  He wanted to pay a slight homage to the 1950’s pompadour.

THE LOOK: To prep the hair, Adir first applied Fekkai Coiff™ Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel ($23) all over the roots and then worked some Fekkai Full Blown Volume Styling Whip ($23) from the roots to the ends. Using a round brush, he blow dried the hair away from the face, and wrapped it around velcro rollers as the hair was cooling down to create extra body and movement.  Once it was completely dry, the velcro rollers were removed and Adir waved random pieces of hair with a medium size barrel iron.

To finish this look Abergel backcombed the hair, pulling all her tresses into a classic French twist, and securing with bobby pins.  He finished the look by hand raking the front of the hair to add volume in the front, inspired by a 1950’s pompadour with texture, height and movement. He sealed the look with the Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray ($23).

I’m also loving this makeup — sultry eyes, structured brows and glossy, mauve lip. Try Lancome Juicy Tubes in Fruity Pop ($18.00) for a barely-there pink with mega-shine.

GIRL CRUSH: Amanda Seyfried at the Chloe Premiere

By | celebrity looks, hair | No Comments

I’m obsessed with Big Love so, naturally, I’m a fan of Amanda Seyfried. On the show, she touts around in barely-there makeup and inconspicuous frocks yet still manages to look absolutely glamorous. But nothing could prepare me for the glamour of Amanda at the Chloe premiere.

Her hair boasts that classic Hollywood curl with a bit of an old school updo while her makeup is moody, sultry and fierce. Those eyes are insane. And obviously, she still sports a poreless complexion (genetic, for sure). I love how she chooses to make her eyes the focal point and leaves the lips nude and natural.

Frederic Fekkai’s Renato Campora tended to the luscious locks and here’s how he achieved the ‘do:

Inspiration: A fresh and modern take on the classic Hollywood glamour.

The Look: First, on the wet hair Renato created a side part, to add softness to the look. He then sprayed the Fekkai Coiff™ Perfecteur Anti-Frizz Silkening Crème before blow drying the hair. He used a 1 inch curling to create the soft waves. Because Seyfried has beautiful long hair, he separated the hair into two sections before pulling both into a chignon. He then pulled the first section into a chignon and pinned into place with bobby pins. Next he took the other section of the hair and blended it into the chignon, leaving a few pieces loose. To secure the look for the night Campora sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray and applied the Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless™ Smooth Finish Serum to give the hair all night shine.

Not that I’ll ever be able to duplicate said ‘do on myself, but this is a great inspiration photo to bring to the hairdresser for my next big event… LOVES IT!

Trend Alert: PIN CURLS

By | hair, trends | 11 Comments

Award Season is well underway (yay!) and the year’s trends are coming out in droves.

My current favorite is the pin curl as seen at the SAG Awards on Saturday night and the Golden Globe Awards last week.

Celebrity stylist Adir Abergel for Frederic Fekkai dishes on how to get the pin curl ‘do from Red Carpet to Real Life:

Adir Abergel starts by parting the hair on an angle and spraying FEKKAI COIFF™ BOUFFANT LIFTING & TEXTURIZING SPRAY GEL to the roots to create body and shine. Then blow-dry sections of the hair with a brush and then using a bobby pin and pinning the hair in the shape of a curl. Lightly spray FEKKAI COIFF™ Sheer Hold Hairspray over the pinned curls. After letting the hair set in the curls for a couple of minutes he loosely takes them out and uses a medium curling iron and small barrel curling iron to accentuate the curl. To complete the look he sprays the hair with FEKKAI ADVANCED™ BRILLIANT GLOSSING™ SHEER SHINE MIST.

How To: Rachel Roy Hair Spring/ Summer 2010 NY Fashion Week

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

“The hair for Rachel Roy pairs a modern edge with a voluminous and classic curl, always elegant, always chic.” – Frederic Fekkai

Andre created two looks at the Rachel Roy Spring 2010 show – both over top voluminous looks, one with a modern edge and one more classic, both big on glamour. For the classic look, a center part with soft, bouncy waves starting beneath the chin, Rodman used Fekkai COIFF™ Strong Hold Volume Mousse, then sprayed hair with Fekkai COIFF™ Defense Pre Style Thermal UV Protectant and curled it around a one inch iron. He used Fekkai Au Naturel Sheer Styling Gel for the modern look; short hair with either a severe side part tucked behind the ears or brushed straight back.

This is an easy, accessible style that any of us can achieve at home! YAY to simple.

Oscar Spotlight: Marion Cotillard

By | celebrity looks | No Comments

I already doted on Marion’s gorgeous Old Hollywood glam hair. Well, here’s how you too can achieve it!

Frederic Fekkai’s Robert Vetica tended to the tresses of winner, Marion Cotillard.

THE LOOK: A modern day Veronica Lake scooped off to the side and accented with a low side part.

Fekkai’s Coiff Magnifique Finishing Cream
Fekkai’s Coiff Fini Sheer Hold Hairspray
