How To: The Looks-Good-On-Everyone Hair Style

By | hair, how to | One Comment

The trick to gorgeous hair is making it all look natural: the color, cut, style. We women know that SO MUCH WORK goes into such a “natural” feel but we continue to work it and strive for sensational strands.

Ryan Crupi of the Chris McMillan Salon – who has tamed the tresses of Kate Beckinsale, Selma Blair and Marissa Tomei – divulges his secrets for maintaining effortless hair year round. One style that works on all manes.

“This style is easy and lasts. It’s seasonless, not a hassle to reproduce at home. And it can be done on long hair or longer bobs,” says Ryan. Think: Elle Macpherson, Giselle, Kate Hudson.

Here are his tips to creating the beautiful stringy loose waves, looks-good-on-everyone look:

TIP 1: You’ll need one good haircut and three maintenance cuts a year.

TIP 2: Make your own beach spray (ocean water, filter out the sand) and use a little serum on the ends. RYAN’S PICK: Kerastase Serum Oleo-Relax – it eliminates frizz and gives it a smooth sheen.

TIP 3: Creating Volume: Apply hairspray at the root and blow-dry up. RYAN’S PICK: Shu Uemura Spray. Curl with 1 1/2 inch brush. The trick is to make sure that the curl sets.

TIP 4: For naturally wavy hair, blow dry front section and air dry the rest. Apply serum to the ends. When it dries completely, use fingers to separate and blend the waves.

Jouer Summer + Expert Tips

By | Uncategorized | 5 Comments

Jouer is one of my favorite color lines (and vastly underrated). Their summer collection is incredible – coral and browns for the eyes, shimmering nudes and golds for the lips. I’m not a big lipstick wearer – I actually prefer gloss on the daily – but I am obsessed with Kiki (pictured), a shimmering goldish pink lippy that actually moisturizes while adding a sparkling splash of color.

I asked Julie Morgan, Makeup Artist for Giada De Laurentiis and Ricki Lake, how to create the perfect summer Jouer face.

Pay attention, ladies, Julie is spilling her expert secrets and product must-haves exclusively for Beauty Banter:

Skin:
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint is lightweight, SPF 20. Hypoallergenic, Oil-free, Water resistent (nicer way of saying sweat-proof!) perfect for summer! It offers a beautiful luminous finish to the complexion. I also double up the Luminizing Moisture Tint as an under eye brightener.

Jouer Matte Touch is a great product to use if you get a little too much sun. It serves as an alternative to blotting paper, this mattifier can help balance the skin.

Cheeks:
Jouer Blush in Blossom offers a natural glow and looks absolutely beautiful with a little tan. To get that “pop” of color, try Jouer Blush in Peony. It looks bright, but is very sheer when applied to apples of the cheeks. All of the Jouer Powder Blushes are oil-free and loaded with antioxidants to help protect the skin. So they are great for the summer months.

Jouer’s new Suntan Bronzer is matte and warms up the skin, giving a natural bronzed effect. Dust all over face or use on forehead, cheeks and decollote, where sun would naturally hit.

Eyes:
I love the summer shades of soft pinks and peaches, which makes me think of the delicious sorbets of the season. Try Jouer’s powder eyeshadows in Peach, Soufflé or Pink Champagne. Apply soft shade all over lid. For a little deeper color, add an accent of Amaretto Powder Eyeshadow, a shimmering deep plum shade, which reminds me of a Hamptons’ vineyard. The beautiful bronze of Amaretto catches light and
brightens any eye.

Lips:
Noisette Lip Definer paired with Julie Lipstick. For that extra pop during the summer, layer on Mimosa Lip gloss on top. The combination is beautiful!

Jouer Lip Enhancer, loaded with vitamins and botanicals which keep lips moisturized, supple and soft, is a true summer essential!

Nicky debuts a shorter ‘do just in time for Spring.

We have one word for the new shoulder length hair… STUNNING!

Nicky gives Beauty Banter the exclusive dish on her new tresses…

Stylist: Kristoff Ball. Co-owner of Preece & Toff Salon at Fred Segal Santa Monica (formerly of Chris McMillan Salon)

“I haven’t had short hair since I was a teenager. I’d been wanting to cut it off for a while,” admits Nicky. ” I think the heat wave in LA a few weeks ago gave me the courage to finally take the plunge. It was just too hot to have long hair! I love my shorter hair. It’s so much easier and manageable.”

Celebrities and taste makers from coast to coast are trading in their long locks for a low-maintenance and breezy bob. We call TREND ALERT!
