Dry Skin RX

By | skin | 3 Comments

From the lips of fellow beauty whore, Di Gaeta….

“The season has moved in to dull, dry winter and so has my skin. I have incredibly parched skin, I can actually slather Eucerin on my face and not break out! So, as the designated Dry Skin product tester, I was excited when Sarah gave me a line called PUR-LISSE. The line obviously encompasses a wide range of products for all skin types but I cannot say enough about the PUR-MOIST and The PUR-YOUTH PRESERVE.

The PUR-YOUTH is a thick, silky serum that glides on the skin like velvet and really coats it. It’s heavy in the best way, like a cashmere full-length wrap for your face. It has incredibly pure ingredients and gets its effectiveness from blue lotus, lupine peptides, sea silk, soy proteins and white tea. It is loaded with Vitamin E and Rice Bran Oil. I kid you not, I think it literally erased ANY tiny lines on my face.

The PUR-MOIST is the hydra balance moisturizer and it is the perfect companion to the PUR-YOUTH. Think of it as your furry earmuffs and scarf. It has the same main ingredients as the serum and together they will absolutely solve ANY dry skin woe. I can’t stress enough how comfortable these product are.

So, in the end, Miss Howard has once again introduced me to a small skin miracle and I am in proud possession of perfect PUR skin.”

Another Take on the Spring Hair Trend

By | hair | One Comment

As I mentioned in the Shiri Appleby post, the “bun/ braid” look is perfect for Spring… easy, care-free, and super sexy.

Beauty Banter contributing editor, Di Gaeta, shows us her take on the new do! Di says the style took her all of 5 minutes… her hair is in that “growing out” phase and she wants it out of her face as it continues to grow. So she pulled the back to the nape of her neck, pinned with bobby pins, then took her bangs and braided them to the side – not a french braid – just a regular old-fashioned braid.

Di says the trick is not letting the hair look too “done-up.” Wispy’s and fly-away pieces make the style that much more beachy and summer-chic! Di also added a head band for a more sophisticated, night-time effect.

She used Wen by Chaz Dean as a styling cream on dry hair. Says Di, “I rubbed a dollop on my hands and worked it into my bangs. It has a similar effect as a pomaide – giving my hair texture so that the braid holds.”

How cute is this do?!

A Fine Frenzy’s Alison Sudol…

In this Beauty Banter Exclusive, Guest Editor Di Gaeta tells us what super hot singer, Alison Sudol, of the super hot band, A Fine Frenzy, uses to keep her skin gorgeous, youthful and hydrated, while on the road…

Hello again…

So the next couple of articles will be coming to you internationally as I’m taking two weeks to go on tour with one of my favorite people, Alison Sudol, and her band A Fine Frenzy.

Ali is a beautiful girl who always looks impeccable and does her OWN hair and makeup for all of her performances, so she’s a treasure trove of good tricks and lovely products. On our first night in Paris we pulled out our product bags to wash our faces and discovered a very real and shared love of Dermalogica products. We’ve been swapping back and fourth and we’re obsessed.

Ali has turned me onto Dermalogica Precleanse. which she swears by. This product is for all skin types and it’s an amazing heavy-duty makeup remover, and a great product to travel with. It’s a an oil that deep cleans in a gentle non-invasive way, and can be used with or without water. Which is perfect when you can’t get to a fresh source of water, which can be tricky on a tour bus or in Europe. I tried this product and loved how soft it left my skin and how easily it dissolved my incredibly thick application of mascara.

The official description: “This plant-based cleansing oil, fortified with Olive and Kukui oils, thoroughly melts layers of excess sebum (oil), sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual skin products that build-up during the day. When water is added it transforms this hydrophilic (water-loving) formula into a milky emulsion, easily rinsing away oil-based debris from the skin’s surface and allowing your recommended Dermalogica Cleanser to penetrate even further for professional cleansing results.”

Ali follows this with the Ultracalming cleanser. I’m hooked on this now as well because it’s great for my sensitive and slightly dry skin.
“An extremely-gentle cleansing gel-cream that combats environmental assault with Dermalogica’s exclusive Anti-Ozonate Complex. Protects and soothes skin sensitized by pollution, temperature extremes, irritating cosmetic products, harsh detergents, chemical exposure, stress, poor diet or hormonal factors. Also contains Lavender, Echinacea and Raspberry extracts for their anti-inflammatory, calming and healing properties. “

I love the Skin Hydrating Booster. It’s a serum that just sinks in right away and literally seal in moisture and is also appropriate for all skin types. It’s also a perfect pre-makeup primer. My dermatologist is constantly singing the praises of Hyaluronic acid, which I also take internally, and this product is a really rich source of it.
“Super-saturated hydration for the driest skin conditions, this intensive hydrating fluid revitalizes parched skin. Hydrates, smoothes and minimizes fine lines with a concentrated blend of Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Glycolipids and Algae Extract to restore moisture balance.”

I am also indebted to, especially in this cold European weather, the AGE Smart Super Rich Repair. This cream is for mature skin, but anyone who has vitamin A raw skin or is just really dry in general will love this. I got it initially because I needed something to combat the dry flakes I was getting from the intense fade cream my dermatologist prescribed for me and fell in love with how smooth and perfect it made my skin. Everyone with dry skin I’ve turned onto this now has their own jar.
“Powerful peptides stimulate collagen production while an acid-free renewal complex smoothes fine lines for dramatically improved elasticity and tone. Ultra-emollient Shea Butter and Oil of Evening Primrose replenish skin with maximum hydration, relieving dryness and reinforcing skin’s natural defensive barrier. Antioxidant Soy Flavonoids shield against the extreme environmental elements that can accelerate the visible signs of aging.”

So now you know our secrets for great skin. Next up, I’ll be going though Ali’s makeup bag to give you her favorite products. I’ve done her makeup for a few of her shows so far and let me tell you, I already have a list of goodies I need to get the minute I’m home…

As Ali would say…
Love, Lights, and Bunnies,

Best Body Oils

By | body | 11 Comments

So as summer approaches and romance is in the air, soft, touchable skin is of the utmost importance. I personally believe that there is nothing sexier than a soft sheen over slightly tanned skin and nothing achieves this effect like a good oil.
Oils are also great for other uses like a scented bath or for dry ends. The only slightly problematic thing is that oils can be expensive. Avoid mineral oil, even though it’s the cheapest, because it will clog pores.

So my two favorite brands are Dr. Hauschka and Monoi Tiare Tahiti.

On the costlier side, The Rose Body Oil from Dr. Hauschka is divine. It is comprised of several essential oils that are blended together to create sheer organic perfection. The scent is light and disappears quickly leaving just a faint trace of rose so I would wear this on an evening when I wanted to dazzle with my favorite perfume. It also absorbs incredibly quickly, so it’s a great “in the morning and rushed to get dressed” choice.

My second obsession is The Monoi Tiare Tahiti solid coconut oil. Every bottle contains a real Tahititan Gardenia flower and only two ingredients: Pure coconut fat and the flower extract. This product is true luxury at a bargain, it generally runs about ten dollars a bottle. Don’t be scared off by the solidity of this oil, you simply throw it, cap on, in your hot bath or put it on the window sill and the heat warms it up to a lovely liquid consistency. It comes in a myriad of scents, I’m partial to the Vanilla, the original Tiare which smells like Bobbi Brown beach, and the coconut. Regardless, they are all amazing. This product has literally given me the softest skin I have ever had and I’ve tried everything. Try it, you’ll be hooked.

When To Say WEN…

By | hair | 4 Comments

Hello fellow beauty buffs…

It’s been a bit since my last post so I figured I would let you in on my absolute to die for hair prescription. I’ll admit, I’m growing out a “fun” haircut that included thick bangs and a short-ish length. Only now, in the in-between stage, I have a mullet. As they say, necessity is the mother of all invention, so I have searched to find products that will grow thick, shiny, healthy hair FAST. Here are my two “miracles”…

First off, everyone knows that Sodium Laureth Sulfate is really harsh and stripping for the hair shaft and it is, unfortunately, the number one ingredient in most shampoos. So I began my quest by looking for cleansers that didn’t contain this ingredient. What I discovered is an AMAZING product called WEN Cleansing Conditioner by Chaz Dean. Chaz is a lovely man and a renowned Celebrity hair stylist who also does tons of runway shows. He created this product because he had seen so much damage from hair dye and styling tools. This cleanser is also a conditioner and it is unlike anything I have ever tried. It doesn’t foam or sud like normal shampoos, but it still cleanses thouroughly, yet without stripping the hair of natural oils. I’m on my fourth bottle and I swear to you, it has literally changed the texture of my hair. It gives you the, “hot girl in high school hair”. I kid you not. It comes in a bunch of lovely scents that are for all different hair types so read the description to find the right one for you. I’m obsessed with the LAVENDER because it contains witch hazel. Also try the hair oil, I live for the FIG scent to use as a styling aid, for frizz, and as a night treatment. Trust me, you’ll be so happy.

I also began taking a hair growth supplement called VIVISCAL Women. It’s a nutritional vitamin that contains a bunch of women specific ingredients like Folic Acid with a North Pacific Marine extract. After just two months of twice daily use, my hair feels noticeably fuller and stronger. I am committed to a six-month regimen, at the very least.

Ok, lovvves, now you know…
