Fall Collection: Bobbi Brown Marrakesh Chic Collection

By | makeup | 4 Comments

For most of the fall collection, we’re going to have a fun way of showing you how wearable or unwearable the shades truly are. But, for this specific collection, we didn’t have the time to play around with the colors nor did we sample them, so, sadly, we will just be reporting on the actual images and text from the press release. However, on a side note, while we don’t personally wear much Bobbi Brown, the colors look very wearable. We’ll have to test the pigments and staying power to see if we are adoring the line…

Alas, the real reason I’m reporting on the Fall 2011 Bobbi Brown collection is because the inspiration for the colors come from Morocco, and, (in case you didn’t know) I’m half Moroccan!

Bobbi says that the collection was inspired by a trip to Morocco, “especially the incredibly rich, earthy colors that dominated the cityscapes and the rural vistas.” On the eyeshadow, she notes: “I’ve wanted to develop a powder to cream hybrid eye shadow for a long time now. The shades in this collection are deeply hued just like the saturated purple, brown and red tones that I saw throughout my journey in Morocco…”

And, here’s the entire fall collection, Marrakesh Chic:

Rich Color Eyeshadow, $24
Coffee Bean, Desert Lily, Pink Silk, Rich Kashmir, Rich Slate, Royale, Sand Dune, Wine.

Rich Lip Color SPF 12, $23
Desert Rose
Metallic Lip Color, $23
Violet Glaze
Creamy Lip Color, $23
Pale Plum
Pink Blossom
Lip Color, $23
Desert Plum

How many of you are clueless when it comes to choosing the right makeup colors to go together? Bobbi Brown’s hoping there’s a bunch of you.

Her newest Spring launch is called Color Strips, a palette of 5 shadows and 3 pot rouges (used for lips and cheeks) that go absolutely perfectly together, hand-picked by the professional makeup artist.

“Don’t be afraid of color. Each palette has one bright eye shadow that really stands out—the rest of my hand-picked shades for eyes, lips and cheeks will make it wearable,” says Bobbi.

I love me a good face palette, it literally has all the makings of a fabulous face. Here’s to hoping that this palette is no exception!

Color Strips comes in 3 color categories: Bonfire, a brownish-neutral, Orchid, a purple-eggplant and Aquamarine, a blue-grey. Available March 2010.

Think Pink – Shopping to Support BCA Pt. 2

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

As I said the other day, I have found so many wonderful products in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month it will take more than one post to share them all. Today I’m focusing on those benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Check in with me Friday for more fabulous finds for the cause.

For dry skin that comes with cooler weather, Aveda Hand Relief moisturizes with soothing Licorice extract, Meadowfoam seed oil, Vitamin A and Vitamin E. Retailing for $21, Aveda will donate $4 from each tube up to $300,000. Available at Aveda Experience Centers and participating salons.

Professional makeup artist Sonia Kashuk brought her runway looks to the real world with a line at Target a decade ago. As a breast cancer survivor, Kashuk has created a limited edition line to be sold at Target with 15% of all sales going to the BCRF. For eyes, there’s the pink Curl for a Cause eyelash curler ($9.99) and cheeks, the Sweep of Pink powder brush ($12.99). The Brush up on Pink 4-piece brush set ($12.99) zips up into a pink floral case making it perfect for travel. The 7-piece Brushed to Perfection is great on the go or on your vanity in its slim floral clutch. The same signature floral print can be found on the Bag Lady cosmetic bag. All items can be found online or in Target stores nationwide.

Throughout October, Bumble and Bumble is donating a $1 for every can of its Classic Hairspray ($12/four ounces or $21/ten ounces) sold online, at their two New York City locations, and participating salons.

Master parfumer Jo Malone created her Red Roses Collection by blending

seven types of rose with violet, lemon and spearmint. Jo Malone will contribute $15,000 from the sale of Red Rose colognes ($55/$100) and bath oil ($60) throughout the month, online and at Bergdorf Goodman, select Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Saks.

Origins designed a special edition of their classic Peace of Mind On-the-spot-relief ($10) for the World Pink campaign. The blend of basil, eucalyptus and peppermint promotes relaxation and relieves stress, and Origins will donate $35,000 from sales this month at Origins stores and department store counters.

Bobbi Brown created the Pink Ribbon Collection for BCA Month, a limited edition set of lippies including a new Creamy Lip Color and Glitter Lip Balm. $40 for the pair, Bobbi Brown will donate $35,000 from sales at Bobbi Brown counters nationwide.

There are so many organizations raising funds for the breast cancer research, education and advocacy this month. I’ll be back with more products and deserving organizations on Friday, and throughout the month. If there’s a product benefiting BCA you think I should know about, leave a comment. I’d love to know what I’m missing. xo alex.

Bobbi Brown Summer 2009: The Nautical Colleciton

By | makeup | 3 Comments

Oh, Bobbi, you’re so naughty — on a cruise, on a yacht, on a sailboat, on anything that floats. I was trying to channel Dr. Seuss just now, but failed miserably. Sadness.

Enough with that, onto the colors. Lots of sheer love, ladies. Although I’m not quite sure how this collection relates to the nautical theme, apparently, these are fab choices for summer sailing.

Wowzah, airbrush!

“I love sheer washes of color for summer. They’re wearable, easy and look good on everyone,” says Bobbi Brown. “If you don’t usually wear a red or a plum or an orange tone, you can get away with it when it’s very sheer.”

Sheer Color Cheek Tint $22.00
Sheer Color Cheek Tint gives cheeks a sheer tint of natural-looking color. The translucent, lightweight formula glides on smooth and blends evenly onto skin. Packaged in a swivel-up stick for convenient and easy application.

Sheer Raspberry, Sheer Lilac, Sheer Pink, Sheer Mauve, Sheer Coral, Sheer Blackberry

Sheer Color Lip Gloss $20.00
Our newest gloss formula is super sheer and super wearable. The see-through finish makes it easy for any woman to wear the season’s punchy shades.

Marina Pink, Cabana Coral, Sailor, Popsicle

Perfectly Defined Mascara $24.00
A unique multi-comb brush and equally innovative formula, working together to enhance each and every lash. The flexible, long-wearing formula doesn’t flake or smudge and stays in place all day long. And best of all, when you’re ready to take it off just use warm water!

I’ll definitely feeling the cheek tints! I want to try all of them – except for sheer mauve – I have a feeling that hue will make me look washed out (or washed to sea).

Any product/ color that you’re obsessing over?

Summer Face 2008

By | makeup | 6 Comments

We all know how AWFUL the sun is for our faces, so make a vow to yourself… THIS SUMMER, I WILL NOT ALLOW THE SUN TO PENETRATE THROUGH MY FRAGILE FACE. I will take precautions when tanning (use SPF that protects against UVA AND UVB rays), and I will treat my skin with the love and care that it deserves…
So, please, I BEG YOU, use an alternative… bronzer, mystic tan (although I despise the orange hue), buildable color moisturizer, or tinted moisturizer.

Here are a few of our favorites:

Benefit’s You Rebel gives good summer face. It’s a tinted moisturizer with SPF 15 and it adds just the right amount of gold (without looking super fake) to your skin. **TIP** Try mixing it with a touch of foundation for an even, flawless, bronzed complexion with added coverage!

Chanel’s Soleil Lame Tinted Bronzing Gel is lightweight and basic. It’s a gel (which I love… doesn’t cake) that glides onto the skin to produce an even tan sans the sun. The color is natural and the gel absorbs without the shine of tinted moisturizers. Great for oily complexions!

Tarte Hotel Heiress is a long time favorite. It’s a powder bronzer (mineral) and I swear, it gives off the best damn sun-kissed effect. I’ve tried many a bronzers and this one continues to be an everyday must-have. It doesn’t give off that sparkle, fake tan look… this bronzer is way more matte and truly au natural.

Glow Fusion
is another favorite from last year. It’s the closest thing to a mystic tan (that I’ve found) AND you can do it yourself… at home! BONUS: It doesn’t give you that nasty, orange spray-tan look! The color is actually amazingly bronze! And if you follow the directions, it really does give you even, precise color.

Physicians Formula Pearls of Perfection Multi-Colored Bronzer is fantastic for those porcelain skinned folks out there. It has a pink undertone to offset the gold so it doesn’t appear too fake (instead it gives off a “warm” finish). I love the consistency – it’s soft and smooth – and it really leaves skin glowing. The pearls are also incredibly fun to play around with… it’s like a combination of loose powder (very potent) and pressed powder (matte, and not as messy). And you can’t beat the price: $11.95.

Bobbi Brown Bronze Shimmer Brick Compact is shimmery and glittery and full of iridescent fun! Personally, I don’t like loads of shimmer in my bronzer, but for those of you who do, this is the bronzer to get. It has five shades, all ranging in golden hues, and it mixes together quite brilliantly to produce a healthy, vibrant, glowing face. I do, however, love this product as an added highlighter atop my matte bronzing powder. It really does create a gorgeous, golden dimension to the skin.

Christmas Is Coming Early…

We adore a good Holiday collection over here at Beauty Banter. Holiday Collections mean that Christmas is just around the corner, and Christmas means that the weather is getting cooler, the air is getting muskier and the days are getting shorter! Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE the sun too – but there’s just something so… cozy about Christmas time!

Here are a couple of our favorite products from a couple of our favorite companies (to view the entire collection, click the company heading):

Smashbox Beyond Beauty Holiday 2007
Smashbox is ALL about fresh and clean. We’re loving the Beyond Beauty Fusion Eye & Cheek Palettes: 8 neutral eye and cheek colors that can be worn alone or blended together!

Stila Dazzle & Dream
Stila has made the make-up process as simple as a single compact! Guinevere’s Deluxe Palette and Scarlett’s Deluxe Palette both include 3 eyeshadows, a blush and a lip gloss. And it comes wrapped in a gorgeous Swarovski decorated case! We love the Guinevere’s Deluxe Palette – a combination of warm golds, apricots and peaches! And they all shimmer like the ornaments on a Christmas tree!

Nars Holiday 2007
Golds and apricots for the eyes, crimson for the lips (this collection reminds me of a pumkin patch!) The Balthazar Duo Eyeshadow pairs a burned yellow with a pumpkin pie colored orange. But my favorite product in this collection is the Viridiana Lipstick. A dark, blood-red hue reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour and perfect for that special Holiday party!

Bobbi Brown Metallics
Silver and blue shimmers for the eyes with pale lips. The Midnight Metallics eye palette has 3 shimmering shades – white, silver and blue. We’re feeling the white, all over the eye, with a dark black liquid liner. Very snow flake…
