Skin: Ascenta Skin Supplements

As they say, you are what you eat. Your skin is a result of the foods, vitamins and nutrients that you ingest. And while topical solutions are important to the overall health of your skin, we mustn’t forget that what we put into our body is just as crucial to maintaining healthy – and happy – skin, hair and nails.

Keeping this in mind, and considering that I just returned from a 2 1/2 month stay in Los Angeles where the sun shines bright but the climate is dry, dry, dry, I partnered with Ascenta Skin to take their 40 day skincare challenge. Because of 6 vital ingredients contained in the formulation of Ascenta, one teaspoon of this omega supplement once a day for 40 days is supposed to transform lackluster skin into a healthy, radiant complexion.

To get started, Ascenta had me answer the following questions:

Q1 – Please rate the evenness of your skin tone on a scale of 1-10 (1 = extremely uneven, 10 = very even)
A1 – 3
Q2 – Please rate the dryness of your skin on a scale of 1-10 (1 = extremely dry, 10 = well hydrated)
A2 – 8
Q3 – Please rate the itchiness of your skin on a scale of 1-10 (1 = extremely itchy, 10 = not itchy at all)
A2 – 9
Q4 – Please rate how easily your skin tends to burn in the sun on a scale of 1-10 (1 = extremely easy, 10 = you never burn)
A4 – 10
Q5 – Do you suffer from skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, eczema? If so, on a scale of 1-10, how inflamed/red is skin (1 = extremely inflamed/red, 10 = not inflamed/red at all)
A5 – I suffer from acne; 8

Clearly, my skincare concerns lie in having to deal with breakouts and an uneven skin tone. I am so excited to see how my skin transforms in these next 40 days!

Benefits of the 6 ingredients in Ascenta Skin:

EPA: This omega-3 fatty acid from fish oil helps to reduce inflammation within the body, improves the symptoms of chronic skin conditions (such as redness and itching associated with eczema and psoriasis), increases the skin’s resistance to sunburn, and improves skin elasticity.

DHA: This omega-3 fatty acid from fish oil also has anti-inflammatory effects within the body, which help to reduce the symptoms and severity of chronic skin conditions. This fatty acid also improves skin elasticity, increases the skin’s resilience against sun damage, and boosts the skin’s resistance to sunburn.

GLA: This omega-6 fatty acid from borage (Starflower) oil increases skin hydration and reduces dryness, itchiness, roughness, and scaling of the skin.

Lutein: This carotenoid is not produced by the human body and must be consumed via food. Although it is found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale, as well as egg yolks, it is difficult to consume enough from the diet alone. Ascenta Skin provides the correct amount needed to help decrease free radicals in the body, improve skin hydration and elasticity, and improve the skin’s resistance to sunburn.

Zeaxanthin: This is another carotenoid that is not produced by the human body and must be consumed via food. Much like lutein, zeaxanthin has antioxidant properties, which help to decrease free radicals in the body. Zeaxanthin also improves the skin’s resilience against sun damage and helps to improve skin hydration and elasticity.

Vitamin D: Vital to skin health, Vitamin D 3 found in the formula works is responsible for many regulatory functions in the body including assisting bone mineralization, immune system function, and gene expression.
