Peter Lamas Hair Solutions Thickening Kit

Peter Lamas Hair Solutions Thickening Kit

I have a super oily scalp – sad, but true. Nobody’s got it all, right? I can hardly go a day without dry shampoo (my favorites being this or this). I’ve come up with all sorts of tricks for stretching out my time between washes because, as we all know, over-washing your hair is BAD for the mane. I’ve washed only the bangs (recap here). I’ve used drugstore shampoos with sulfates to strip my scalp (no bueno). I even changed my shower head to one that amplifies water pressure in the hopes that it would give my scalp a deeper clean. I’m still on the hunt for the ideal shampoo that will rid my scalp of excess oil in just one wash, and this post doesn’t remedy that problem.

But in my quest for a shampoo that really obliterates all of the scalp oil, I found Peter Lamas’ Hair Thickening Energizing Shampoo. Why would I need a hair thickening shampoo when I have a perfectly full head of hair (some may even say it’s thick)? Well, because like people with fine hair, my oily scalp can leave my mane rather blah. Limp. A bit lifeless. And I like fullness. Va-va-volume.

The brand touts the Energizing Shampoo as helping to promote the appearance of thicker, fuller-looking hair. Who isn’t on the hunt for that? “It’s formulated with a mix of ingredients, including apple stem cells, Baicapil, Trichogen, biotin (vitamin B7), and antioxidants, along with an Eastern herb blend, eucalyptus oil, aloe vera leaf, white tea extract, peppermint oil, and ginger root.” Okay, so here’s the deal: I used the shampoo; it’s thicker than I expected and took a lot of elbow grease to foam and sun — which I liked because then I thought it was actually giving my scalp a deeper clean.

I followed up with the complimenting conditioner: The Energizing Condition, which hydrates while also helping to promote fuller, thicker-looking hair. While my scalp is oily, my ends are on the drier side (partially due to the fact that I color my hair), so I tend to go for conditioners that add moisture, not ones that are meant for oily hair. But some mega moisture conditioners can weigh your hair down even more. It’s a fine balance – moisture plus bounce – and Peter Lamas’ Hair Thickening Energizing Conditioner gets the job done. It’s amazing. Period.

I let my hair air dry, as I usually do, and it the ends looked healthy and hydrated, the scalp had more volume than usual, and my wavy hair had real bounce. I received three compliments from friends who see me all the time. One friend even asked if I had used a curling iron to get that movement. Ummm, no, but I do have a secret weapon — and it’s this great Peter Lamas set!

It comes with a Scalp Serum, which I have yet to use. But the shampoo and conditioner worked wonders for me (no, it did not rid my hair of all of the oil, but it did give me a good two days between washes — and limp scalp no more). BUT if you actually have fine or thinning hair, I’d suggest using the serum along with the shampoo and conditioner. The entire kit costs $59, but you can’t really put a price on fuller-looking, model-like strands, am I right?
