Favorites: Skin Lightening Products That Actually Work
Oh, how good the sun feels – but how bad it is for our thin skin! Chances are, as summer comes to an end, your face has taken a slight beating when it comes to texture. Sun spots, anyone? (Here, here!) Sure, we can get fancy lasers, peels, and other in-office procedures to transform our skin to pre-summer evenness, but we’re still going to need to add a few skin lightening products into the mix; products that lighten and brighten the complexion on the daily.
Here, our favorites – so that our faces can be sun spot-free:
IS Clinical White Lightening Complex ($140) – This stuff tingles upon application, which makes us think it’s working. The lightweight serum-y/ creamy complex lighten and brightens, while reducing inflammation and breaking up dark pigmentation. It’s also packed with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, so it’ll actually help with the aging thing, too.
SkinCeuticals Advanced Pigment Corrector ($90) – A cream that reduces discoloration from hyperpigmentation and acne scars (rejoice!) with .3% salicylic acid to exfoliate and 1% hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid to prevent further hyperpigmentation. Ideal for us ladies who suffer from stubborn melanoma, but want to use something less toxic than hydroquinone.
Zo Medical By Zein Obagi Brightenex ($120) – With 1% retinol, this treatment will break up existing pigmentation while preventing future damage. It’ll immediately brighten the complexion, and it works on eliminating fine lines and wrinkles, too. Double duty cream with benefits!
Is Clinical White Lightening Serum ($69) – Similar to the White Lightening Complex that we mentioned above, this serum helps with the overall complexion. It’ll lighten and brighten, while also smoothing and reducing pore size. It’s not as strong as the complex, so choose this if you just want light complexion maintenance.
Murad Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum ($65) – Two percent hydroquinone will act fast to diminish the appearance of dark spots, age spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation. If you’re looking for a non-hydroquinone formula, than this is not for you. But if you don’t mind hydroquinone, you’ll see fading results quickly. We’re down with it.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution ($88) – This old school favorite is basically liquid retinol that’ll help with the overall complexion by smoothing, brightening, and evening out uneven skin tone due to sun damage. Again, it’s also ideal for fighting fine lines and wrinkles because retinol is a fast-acting exfoliator/ skin cell turnover.
