Fall’s Metallic Lip
And the metallic lip craze continues. We touched on this metal mouth trend a few months ago, but we’re going to revisit it since it shows no signs of slowing down. So if you missed out on the metallic lip this summer, rest assured, you still have time to play up your pout in all of the fierce metal shades.
We asked celebrity makeup artist Sarah Tanno, who works with Lady Gaga, to give us the lowdown on the high art of fall’s metallic lip. Here’s what she had to say:
When to wear it: “You can achieve this look best by keeping the rest of your makeup fresh. Light foundation, with natural flushed tones in the skin. I love this look with just the lip being the focus but you can also pair with a matte blended eye.”
How to wear it: “I like to prep by filling the lip in completely with a lip liner. Try Marc Jacobs Beauty (P)out Liner ($24), which is long wearing and matte. Next, apply whatever metallic lip color you’re into. Lime Crime ($18) has some pretty awesome shades.
I’m also excited to tell you about a new lip product from Marc Jacobs Beauty that I’ve been using and launches soon; it’s the first of its kind! Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon. It’s a lipstick in a crayon form that has this amazing ingredient called “Ghost Pearl,” a subtle bit of shimmer that catches light and adds dimension to your lips. This would be the more approachable way to get the vibe of a metallic lip without going too wild. They come in beautiful shades and are fun to blend together.”
Make your own metallic lipstick: “You can also achieve a metallic lip by tapping a bit of pigment or shadow into your lips. Anything with a frosty finish on the lip will help you to get the same finish.” Layer with a clear balm or gloss.
