Current Obsession: Multi-Tasking Primers

Current Obsession: Multi-Tasking Primers

Want #flawless makeup that lasts all day? Yes, we do too. Just about every makeup pro will direct us to primer (on top of proper skincare and SPF, of course) before makeup application. We know, trying to maintain a near-perfect skincare routine is enough…which is why multi-tasking primers are our new current #obsession.

Beauty Banter reached out to Smashbox Pro Artist, Laura Jane Schierhorn, for the scoop on primers + skincare benefits. Laura says “Primers are becoming more multitasking, providing benefits beyond making makeup last longer,” including minimizing the appearance of pores and fine lines, oil-absorption, hydration, and anti-aging! Beauty and skincare have come a long way. #Winning.

We tried out these multi-use primers, and we LOVE…

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water ($32) – First off, water-based products provide lightweight, effective hydration for all skin types (including sensitive and oily skin), says Laura. It’s crazy-easy to use and alcohol-free, providing a sheer mist that preps skin and can be used to set makeup, too.

Catrice Prime & Fine Multitalent Fixing Spray ($8) – The more affordable cousin of the Smashbox primer mist, but just as good. Can also be used to freshen up makeup throughout the day.

MAC Prep + Prime Moisture Infusion ($42) – Serums are no longer old-school beauty tips, serums are a huge thing right now and this primer doubles as a daily serum plus primer. Apply in the AM before moisturizer for a hydration boost and makeup that lasts all day.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer ($44) – Best suited for normal to dry skin, this super-moisturizing primer is surprisingly lightweight and sheer. Creates the perfect canvas for fierce makeup.

Becca First Light Filter Face Primer ($38) – A light, lavender-pigmented primer that “lights up” the complexion, kind of like that Snapchat filter we’re all obsessed with. #NoFilter.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Radiance ($39) – Laura says it: “Provides longer-lasting wear, smoothing benefits, and a beautiful radiant finish.”
