Weekly Must-Have: Smith & Cult The Tainted Lip Stain
I’m always on the hunt for the perfect nude lipstick that’ll go with any look – from barely-there to dramatic and dangerous – and stay on all.day.long. I mean, aren’t we all?
Well, I’ve found one that’s pretty pretty close to perfect: Smith & Cult’s The Tainted Lip Stain in Kissing Tiny Flowers. So, it’s called a “stain” but it’s more like a lip paint in its creamy formula and staying power. It has some real pigment to it and the finish is actually a non-drying matte, not a liquid-y stain. It’s that one lipstick shade that you can wear day and night to add a punch of color, without overwhelming your pout.
I’ve been painting it on in the mornings with little-to-no makeup and at night, when I live to rock a smokier eye. The universal classic pinky-nude is a go-to for all of my makeup looks. I also love the way it looks with a bit of clear gloss layered on top (adding shine to the middle of your lip makes your pout pop.. i.e. it appears bigger). Lanolips 101 Ointment Multipurpose Superbalm ($17) is my favorite because it is all-natural so the ingredients aren’t toxic, it hydrates and repairs, and it also gives good sheen.
Remember ladies: This isn’t a trendy shade. It’s a color that is timeless, classic, and will always be a welcome hue in your makeup arsenal.
Lest us not forget that, because this is a “stain,” although much closer to the consistency of a Kylie Lip Kit Lip Paint, the color will stay put for hours. It’s not as smudge-proof as Kylie’s paints, but it’s way better than a lot of the other brands touting their formulas as stay-all-day wear (when they hardly even stay until your first sip of coffee). After eating lunch, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of lipstick still left on my lips; I didn’t even need to reapply — I just added some gloss and I was good to go for another few hours.
Kissing Tiny Flowers has become a staple in my purse… and on my pout. Mwah!
