Gold, and all its sister shades, is practically a summer prerequisite. This season, stay on trend with your gilded accessories, makeup, and even hair. But nothing says summer quite like the gilded eyelid. Unlike fall or winter’s heavy metallic eye, a summer gilded lid is more of a wash of color. While a darker bronzed hue is your winter go-to, summer beckons sun-flecked shades of shimmery golds, rose golds, and champagnes. When wearing this trend, keep your skin sun-kissed and glowing with these necessities and add a flush of blush to cheeks. Lips can be glossy, lightly stained or completely bare.
Note: When going for the gilded look, liquids, creams and wet shadows work best to offer an easy wash of shimmery color.
Nars Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia ($29) – One of my favorite summer launches, these shadows are velvety soft and formulated with high intensity pigments. For the gilded look, use Himalia, a shimmery champagne, and add a bit of water to create a paste.
Make Up For Ever Star Powder in Bronze Khaki ($20) – For a pure metallic gold shimmery eye, this is the shadow to own. Its loose pigment can be applied wet or dry to create a stunningly sexy gilded lid.
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow in Rio De Rose Gold ($18) – A shimmering, pinky gold liquid shadow that brings the gilded lid to life.
Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Ample Amber ($17) – A sheer, golden shadow stick that imparts a creamy, wash of shimmery color onto the eyes. For a one minute gilded lid, the Chubby Stick can do no wrong. Just glide and go.
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in My Two Cents ($20) – A polished coppery gold cream shadow that doesn’t crease of smudge while offering serious metallic pigment. RSVP, a sparkling champagne shade, is just as glamorous (but has pink undertones).
Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Mirage ($36) – If you’re into mega shimmer, then this is the shadow for you. A coppery gold in a gel-like formula that can be applied sparingly for a hint of hue or layered for more intensity.
