With the help of the professionals at CND Nails – responsible for several of the runway nails season after season – we brought you a forecast of trends to come (click here for a recap), the most noted nails on the Fall 2012 NYFW runways. Now, we’re bringing it back to the present moment and, once again, calling on CND to give us their expertise on tip trends of Spring 2012. Taking her inspiration from the spring 2012 fashion week runways, CND Co-Founder & Style Director, Jan Arnold, gives us a recap of the 5 brightest, boldest and chicest nail looks to live in this season (plus pro DIY secrets):
New Rock & Roll
Debbie Harry meets Rihanna in this rock-star nail trend of nearly-neon shades in daring, psychedelic designs. Bold checkerboards, dangerous ombres and electric halo nails are energized with flashes of bright pink, primary reds and greens and midnight blues. Master this trend with a dramatic ombré – try pairing a dark blue or black with a fade into primary blue, red or green (we did it at Jen Kao and it looks beautiful AND dangerous)!
Treasured Antiquity
This season’s new power metallic is emblazed with foiling and glitter. Heighten sophistication by contrasting a gold chrome nail with black edging; or doing a peachy nude nail with a slim silver perimeter. This look was seen on the runway at Norman Ambrose and The Blonds. Pick up your own gold leafing at a local craft store and apply to tacky polish with a tweezer. Use top coat to seal and protect the manicure!
Soy Milk Manicures
Say goodbye to the chalky white nails of yesterday, and hello to the creamy, airy whites of Spring 2012. Soy milk manicures are slightly translucent and look best on a feminine almond shape. This breezy shade of the season was used on the runways at Monique Lhuillier, Joy Cioci, Katie Ermilio and Joanna Mastroianni. Try two coats of CND Colour in Cream Washed with a high shine top coat.

These nails are so interesting and so much fun! I wish I didn’t need such useful hands.
