The Threesome To Save Your Winter Lips

Anyone who knows me knows I love a good lip treatment, especially a lip oil. True story: I used to put pure vitamin E oil on my lips because I found it more hydrating than Vaseline (and less toxic) and it literally made my lips look so shiny, you couldn’t help but stare (and hopefully want to kiss them). Then pure vitamin E oil became hard to find and I had to resort to the vitamin E gel capsules. But that become more work than it was worth as each time I wanted to add some hydration and shine to my lips, I had to actually puncture a hole in the capsule and apply. It got messy.

So, you can imagine my delight when I stumbled across Make Beauty’s Twilight Lip Oil/ Remover ($12). Sure, it’s a double-duty product, meant to remove lipstick (especially matte formulas) in a cinch, without the tugging that leads to fine lines around the mouth.A gentle swipe of a soaked cotton pad and all traces of lipstick literally vanish. But the oil actually moisturizes too! It gives that coveted glossy look with serious hydration, making me nostalgic for the good ol’ days of vitamin E oil. Alas, I keep this stuff on my desk and apply daily, several times. My lips are so damn smooth right now.

But Make Beauty makes another two all-star lip products worth mentioning that literally cure winter’s curse of a chapped, chafed pout: The Sea Salt Exfoliator and Marine Lip Repair ($40) (sold as a set).

Not trying to sound like a broken record here, but anyone who knows me knows how much I love a lip scrub. I’ve tried at least a dozen of them, including a DIY recipe that works wonders (especially considering that you can pick up all of the ingredients at the condiment section of your local Starbuck’s). The thing that sets the great lip scrubs apart from the good is the harshness of the exfoliation. Lips are sensitive, treat them as such. Therefore, don’t exfoliate with abrasive ingredients. A gentle scrub can be removed with a tissue, leaving your precious pout in a serious smooching state. Make’s Sea Salt Exfoliator does all of this, with a wonderfully subtle peppermint scent (and taste!). Follow up the scrub with their equally wonderful Marine Lip Repair, a highly concentrated lip salve that hydrates, protects, and nourishes.

Use this threesome as a daily lip regimen and I guarantee, within a week, chapped lips will be a thing of the past!
