Makeup As Skincare: It’s A Thing

Makeup that doubles as skincare, yes it’s possible. It used to be that skincare is what we did to counter the effects makeup can have on our skin, because although we love makeup, our skin sadly doesn’t.

Recently, Alicia Keys has been making a case for no makeup, walking red carpets with a bare face and looking gorge. Kim Kardashian West also went sans makeup at the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week. Both women looked fab stepping out makeup-free; they credit a strict skincare routine for their flawless looks.

While we are not all blessed with perfect genes – or even have access to some of the creams, sticks, and cleansers available to celebs – there’s hope. Makeup companies are taking on a fresh skincare approach, making products that give color while also helping specific concerns, like acne or fine lines. We shouldn’t have to ditch our makeup bags for the sake of beautiful skin.

Beauty and skincare go hand-in-hand. And now that makeup and skincare companies are moving toward bringing us products that are gentle, with skincare benefits, we can use our favorite foundations, lipsticks, and mascaras knowing we are doing some good for our skin.

Here are some makeup products we’re adding to our skincare routines ASAP:

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ ($38) – A bestselling concealer, it’s full-coverage, color-correcting and anti-aging all with SPF.

Fresh Sugar Cream Lip Treatment ($24) – Creamy color and sheen with vitamins E and C for even texture.

Tarte Tartlette In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette ($45) – Made with natural ingredients, these shadows offer serious pigment and blendability. Also, the brand’s signature Amazonian clay combats oiliness on lids for perfect shadow all night and well into the morning.

NUDESTIX Lash Lengthening Mascara ($24) – Not only does this mascara make lashes appear longer while wearing it, it’s peptide-infused formula strengthens and supports the natural growth of lashes.

Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation ($60) – Basically an anti-aging treatment that doubles as foundation, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and pores. All Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare products have SPF and anti-aging ingredients. Also try Perricone MD No Lipstick Lipstick SPF 15 ($30).

Glam Glow Poutmud Wet Lip Balm Treatment ($24) – A lip balm infused with a number of skin-loving oils for glowing lips. Try in shades Birthday Suit, Love Scene, and #HelloSexy to add a pop of pretty color to your pout.

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint ($36) – Minimizes the look of fine lines, adds a hint of hue, and can be used on lips and cheeks!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer ($44) – Even with skincare-slash-makeup products, good skincare starts before we even apply our makeup. Marc Jacobs face primer ensures skin is hydrated with nutrients and vitamins for makeup that stays longer and skin that looks younger. Fist pump.

  • I need to try the Perricone MD serum, love that so many brands are releasing actually good for you makeup products. It is so refreshing and honestly makes me feel better and more justified about purchasing them. The new Nars concealer has skincare benefits too, it is supposed to lift and plump the area it is applied to as it contains hyaluronic acid and vitamins. Great post xxx

Why is this being branded as a new thing? Almost all cosmetics contain oils, peptides and/or vitamins soooo….. you’re really just telling us about regular ole makeup. I remember buying Wet ‘n Wild lipstick back in the 80’s and they boasted about it being infused with vitamin E.
Furthermore, there’s no mention that the blogger has even tried any of the products. I think this blog was written just to plug the advertisers or to receive free merchandise. LAME!!!

Wow I did not know that Make up can be used for skin care! I use my Solvaderm as part of my Foundation, but make up living a permanent effect on the face is something I have not heard of yet. Thanks for this great article! I will buy these products as it will hit 2 birds with one stone!
