Less Is More: The No-Makeup Makeup Look
In a beauty world focused on complex how-tos with countless steps, we have recently found ourselves coveting a more natural look. While the whole idea is a bit #IWokeUpLikeThis, the right products are still, of course, required (anyone who tells you otherwise is lying–trust.) Rather than change your natural beauty, these formulas only enhance it.
BECCA Style Director Kerry Cole filled us on on this “no-makeup makeup” trend, which she personally embraces as a bit of a “revolt against tons of steps and hours spent in front of the mirror.”
According to Kerry, a primer is crucial. BECCA’s Backlight Priming Filter ($38) will smooth your skin tone for an even canvas, while also giving a subtle glow.
If you still need to wear foundation for coverage, be sure to wet your foundation brush before application. Kerry explains, “I wet the BECCA One Perfecting Brush ($49) to diffuse and soften whatever foundation formula I’m using so that it creates a lighter look.”
It is impossible to decide the best aspect of Glossier Boy Brow ($16). Is it the soft yet waxy texture, the perfectly tiny brush, or the subtle yet noticeable tint? Either way, we just ordered two more tubes to keep brows groomed but far from overdone.
Some occasions call for major lashes, but for more laid back situations, we love Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara ($17). It adds length and sheen without a clump in sight.
Simply put, Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo ($30) makes your lips look like your own… but better. And because it comes in six shades, it’s easy to find the exact one for your unique pucker.
RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Modest ($36) may look dark in the container, but it gives the perfect amount of flush to cheeks. Tap any extras left on your fingers to your lips.
Kerry taught us the importance of perking up tired skin with a bit of luminosity. We especially love putting BECCA Shimmer Skin Perfector ($41) on our cheekbones for a subtle dose of enhancement.
You may think this look is only for daytime, but Kerry totally disagrees. Rather, “a natural look is simply the foundation to take your makeup into an evening look. With an extra layer of darker shadow and a coat of berry stain on the lips, your natural look can easily be converted into something a bit more dramatic.”
