How To Video: Milkmaid Braids

(click “read more” for the how to video tutorial)

Milkmaid braids, a celebrity favorite summer updo (like Mary Kate Olsen, pictured).

Tools Needed: Rattail comb, Goody elastics, large french hair pins, hairspray.

What I used: Rattail comb, Goody Ouchless Elastics, Goody Ouchless Mini Clear Elastics , French hair pins, L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray

Directions:

Step 1: On air dried hair, make a center part with the end of a rattail comb. Make sure that the back of hair has a clean center part as well.
Step 2: Divide hair into two equal parts and bring them to each side. Place them behind ears create pigtails securing with a rubber band the same color as your hair.
Step 3: Start braiding one side into a tight, clean braid. If hairs become astray, use hairspray on your fingers to put them back in place.
Step 4: Secure the ends with a small clear rubber band. Make sure to braid at least 90% of the way down. Do the same on the other side.
Step 5: Take one braid and place it to rest above your head like a head band. Secure with french bobby pins. The ends will most likely stick up and that’s fine.
Step 6: Do the same with the other side only this time, where the two braids meet on top of your head, hide the extra hair (tail) of the first side under the braid of this side. Secure with french bobby pins.
Step 7: You will notice that the ends from the second braid are now sticking out. Take these and tuck them under the wrapped braid. Use a regular bobby pin to hide the tail.
Step 8: Spray, spray, spray!
