I’m having quite the love affair with a nude mouth. But this nude isn’t the one of the late 1990s (MAC’s Spice lipliner, anyone?) where lips look painted in a matte beige hue reminiscent of “dead mouth”. No, this nude is the new nude with pops of pink, rose, blush, mauve and shell.
These badly-there lips first caught my attention on the 2012 award circuit with the likes of Angelina Jolie and Michelle Williams. A glossier nude that brims with life and attitude. Most recently, I caught this new nude on the runway of Victoria’s Secret. While this nude housed shades of pink, it was still considered a shiny bare lip coupled with sultry eyes. Nude has always worked well with a dark eye, but the new nude looks great with a naked eye too. The trick to choosing your new nude is finding a color that has just enough punch of pink – and then deciphering on the shade of pink that works best with your lips. Pale lips might need a more lively pink while a very pigmented lip can choose a soft mauve/ nude.
Here are a few of my favorite new nudes. Keep in mind, these aren’t your normal beige-nudes, all of these picks do have a hint of color.
2. Burberry Lip Glow Natural Lip Gloss in Nude Rose – Shiny nude with a hint of shell.
4. Kevyn Aucoin The Lipgloss in Nyalia – A creamy deep mauve-nude gloss.
5. Clinique Chubby Stick in Bountiful Blush - A sheer nude with a pop of blush. Looks great layered under Kevyn Aucoin’s Nyalia for added shine.
6. Dolce & Gabbana The Lip Gloss in Innocence – A creamy nude, super shiny gloss with pastel pink undertones. Applies light but can be layered for a more colorful lip. Layered on top of Tarte’s Pure lipstick gives the perfect nude-pink lip to be worn with a bare eye or a smoky one.
