Favorites: Cream-Gel Moisturizers
Breakouts, blotchiness, and excess oil secretion are all par for the course when it comes to summer’s hot and humid climate. Winter is more drying on the skin, thus it is important to use a thick moisturizer for face and body. But come summer, the heavy creams will only lead to a greasy complexion. While our skin needs hydration year round, as the seasons change, so too must our moisturizers. We still have almost two months left of summer, so if you haven’t made the switch yet, don’t fret, there’s time (like, right NOW).
The cream-gel moisturizer has become quite popular for the warmer (make that, sweatier) months. While a gel consistency is lightweight, the feel of a gel-cream is also very soothing (ideal for post sun exposure) and the formula absorbs quickly while giving your complexion a healthy glow (as opposed to a slick greasy shine from heavy creams).
And here’s an industry trick: For an extra soothing moisturizing experience, leave your cream-gels in the fridge to cool. The formulas lend themselves wonderfully to the benefits of being applied cold. Think of it as a refreshing and hydrating DIY spa treatment for the face.
AMOREPACIFIC ‘Moisture Bound’ Refreshing Hydra Gel ($100) – This has been a staple in my beauty cabinet for a few years now. And come summer, I use the soothing oil-free gel religiously. It provides the necessary hydration without making my skin look greasy – and it even gives it that coveted glowing effect.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Gel Creme ($87) – I’m a fan of the Hydra line but if I had to pick a favorite product, it would be the gel face cream. Again, it adds the right amount of hydration that instantly absorbs into the skin while leaving my complexion luminous and bright (as opposed to dreary and dull – or overly greasy).
La Mer The Moisturizing Gel Cream ($265) – I have yet to try the gel cream version of the classic La Mer moisturizer, although I have used the cream on occasion (it’s too rich for my overactive oily glands). The company calls this the “ultralight edition of the Creme de la Mer” which sounds a bit more up my alley and that of anyone who has problem skin. On the wish list!
Korres Pomegranate Balancing Cream-Gel Moisturizer ($32) – This cream-gel absorbs into the skin instantly giving a matte finish to the complexion, so if matte is your thing then this is the gel to try. It’s soothing properties help reduce redness, making this an ideal after-sun moisturizer.
Peter Thomas Roth Laser–Free Regenerator Moisturizing Gel–Cream ($68) – I love the entire PTR laser-free line but since we’re talking cream-gel moisturizers, I thought it fitting to include this soothing gel anti-aging cream. Don’t let the red color scare you away – it’s made with dragon’s fruit which gives it its crimson hue.
