Beauty Balms

Beauty Balms – also known as BB creams – hail from Korea where they have long been considered the must-have face product for Asian women. In general, BB creams are part moisturizer, part sunscreen, part treatment serum, part primer, and part foundation. The lightly tinted formulas are meant to adjust to specific skin tones leaving your complexion younger, smoother, and dewier while controlling sebum production and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and pores. BB creams can be worn alone to give skin a brightening, tightening and more even look, or under your favorite foundation or tinted moisturizer (most BB creams actually help makeup stay in place for hours longer). Talk about multi-tasking at its finest!

Here are my favorite Beauty Balms:

Dr. Jart BB Cream Water Fuse ($36) – Probably the most famous of the beauty balms, Dr. Jart’s BB cream is oil-free, yet still hydrates and protects the skin. The tinted hue evens out a spotty complexion while an added SPF 25 keeps the bad UV rays away. Is the ideal primer – I use this stuff religiously prior to a foundation or tinted moisturizer, although you can wear solo, too.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm ($45) – Not your typical BB cream, as there is no color associated with this formula. However, the cult classic Flash Balm is just about the greatest thing to happen to skin since Smashbox’s Photofinish Primer (and then sadly learning that the ingredients in Photofinish are awful for your skin). This balm hydrates while filling in fine lines (it almost makes my laugh lines non-existent) and is a great primer to apply pre makeup application. I must say, I love it on its own and use it during the day when I want my skin to look more alive.

Clinique BB Cream ($37) – This hydrates, corrects, protects with SPF 30 and has a tinted shade to help even out the skin tone and cover imperfections. It also regulates oil production so skin is flawless all day long. This is the ideal BB cream to mix with a tinted moisturizer as they work in tandem to off fuller coverage while still maintaing a shine-free complexion. Comes in 3 shades.

Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream ($13)- For a more affordable version of the BB cream, Garnier’s skin perfector will hydrate, brighten, even the complexion and protect with SPF 15. They also have a few different shades to choose from so that you are able to match it to your skin tone.

Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm ($38) – If you’re looking for more coverage, this is the BB cream for you. While it contains no SPF, it will give you a more flawless complexion – omitting the need for foundation – and the formula contains peptides that work on ridding you of those fine lines.

This is a great piece – thanks! I also love Clarins BFB and Garnier BB. Question for you — how exactly do you apply the Clarins BFB so it fills in your wrinkles? It doesn’t seem to do the same for me (and I have pretty minor dehydration lines) – I’d love to know if there is a trick to it — if so, it would become my perfect primer!

  • I literally apply into my lines, then let it penetrate and soak in. It works well on the laugh lines around my mouth!

Are all of these actual creams and not tints? I have tried a BB Cream before and it was actually a tint (false advertising I think).

  • some of them do have tints… clarin’s beauty flash balm does not.

  • I’ve tried a few BB creams over the last couple of years, and it’s really a toss-up on whether they’ll work on my oily skin. The Garnier one def was not a match for me, lol! I’m currently loving the Tarte BB cream. It’s meant to be a primer, so sometimes I finish it with a mineral powder, but I usually just wear it solo.

  • I have heard nothing but good things about the DR. Jart cream.

I was at a conference the other day and a few people were talking about it – they love it.

I love BB cream and use it instead of foundation. I suggest giving a try on Asian BB cream, because they are SO different (and might even be better) than the Western ones. Skin79, Missha, and Laneige make good ones that receive glowing reviews and they’re available in US from online shops.

  • It’s genuinely very complex in this active life to
listen news on TV, so I just use internet for that purpose, and get the latest

  • Hi friends, its fantastic piece of writing regarding educationand completely defined,
keep it up all the time.

  • For the more advanced tile enthusiasts, having
tile nippers, tile cutters and trowels would be good.
For a small living room space, select plain colored upholstery for sofas or
chairs instead of bold plaids, stripes, or prints. -If laying on a solid floor,
laying a damp proof membrane is advisable.
